Acting as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert, you’ll collaborate with internal teams and vendors to optimize performance, support future growth, and maintain Optus’s position at the forefront of network innovation. What you’ll be doing End‑to‑end design and integration of DWDM platforms into the Optus network, acting as a subject matter expert in optical transport technologies. Develop DWDM network architecture, perform detailed optical design, lab testing, and oversee implementation into production environments. Translate product and capacity requirements into detailed technical scoping documents and produce high‑quality engineering design documentation aligned with standards. Maintain and update existing DWDM infrastructure to meet evolving specifications, performance targets, and compliance requirements. Define and document DWDM design processes, standards, and best practices to ensure consistency and quality across the network. Act as a technical interface with internal teams and vendors, resolving design issues and ensuring strategic alignment. Deliver technical training, provide strategic recommendations, and offer tier 3 support for troubleshooting and problem resolution. What makes you perfect for the role? Advanced knowledge of DWDM systems, including ROADM technologies, coherent optics, and high‑capacity optical transmission. Strong capability in optical layer design, wavelength planning, link budget analysis, and integration across metro and long‑haul networks. Understanding of DWDM’s role within broader transport layers such as Fibre, Carrier Ethernet, SDH, ATM, and Switching. Hands‑on experience with leading DWDM platforms (e.g., Nokia, Infinera, Ciena), multi‑vendor integration, and open line systems. Knowledge of hardware/software lifecycle planning and cyber compliance for optical transport platforms in regulated environments. Ability to produce detailed design documentation, troubleshoot complex faults (Tier 3), and clearly communicate technical concepts to diverse audiences. Optus is a place where we let you do you.
