Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School including Ipswich Junior Grammar School is seeking an experienced and passionate Indigenous Liaison Officer to provide our Indigenous student community with tailored pastoral care and academic support to empower them to succeed and flourish in their academic journey with the School. This role also provides advise to the School on matters of cultural protocol to ensure students can flourish. We welcome and strongly encourage applications from individuals who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. Reporting to the Dean of Students, this is a permanent part‑time (37.5 hrs per fortnight), term‑time role commencing in January 2026. Key focuses of the role include: Play a key role in providing knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, languages, and cultures within the School. Assist Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to engage in learning and assessment as directed by the classroom teacher. Provide professional development, support, and advice to teachers to enhance student engagement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and to enrich the curriculum with Indigenous perspectives. Support Indigenous parents in the School’s community through regular contact and support. Facilitate and maintain communication between various stakeholders such as school staff, community, and others to increase student engagement and outcomes. Establish and expand links with Indigenous communities to educate and support students and the School community. Develop networks of agencies which can assist the School to meet the holistic needs of Indigenous learners (education, health, justice, family support, etc). Support Indigenous students to access career pathways and opportunities. Occasional paid evening and weekend work may also be required to support school events each term. What you will bring To be successful in this role, it is envisaged that you will be highly organised, with a positive “can‑do” attitude, as well as: Proven experience (ideally 2+ years) in a similar role or relevant role, preferably within a school environment. Possess knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and history. Ability to develop confidence and self‑esteem in students and to act as a role model in presentation, action, and communication. Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and to communicate effectively with students, parents, and all school personnel. Willingness to participate in and lead professional development activities. Excellent organisational and communication skills. Willingness and ability to use technology for teaching and communication. The ability to be flexible, multi‑task and to work effectively as a member of a group is essential. Willingness to support the values and aims of the School. Ability to promote an environment of dynamic, active and challenging learning. Ability to develop effective working relationships and rapport with students.
