Community Education Counsellor (Identified) – Cooktown State School Cooktown State School is seeking a dynamic team player with a passion for encouraging the participation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students and their families in school, helping to maximise student outcomes. This role is offered in a Temporary Part‑Time capacity (0.60 FTE), 43.5 hours per fortnight. About the Role As the Community Education Counsellor (Identified), you will provide educational counselling and support services within secondary schools to ensure the best possible services are available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander secondary students and their communities. This may include providing individual and group support to students in the areas of personal, academic and social skill development, as well as behaviour management. You will also deliver cross‑cultural awareness training to the broader school community to enhance understanding and empathy for the educational and social needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander secondary students. Your Responsibilities Provide educational counselling and support services to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students across a number of schools. Participate in the development of activities, in and out of school, likely to enhance the involvement in education of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and their families. Develop and undertake support service programmes designed to meet the needs of the schools and encourage the educational participation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children and students. Establish and maintain links with out‑of‑school sources of information and support services to assist in the advancement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and students.
