A phlebotomist plays a key part in the smooth running of patient care. Their primary role is to collect blood samples safely, accurately, and with as much comfort as possible for the patient. This includes identifying the correct tests, preparing the equipment, confirming patient details, and ensuring samples are labelled and handled properly so they reach the laboratory in good condition. Main duties of the job They also help manage the flow of patients by organising appointments, maintaining infection control standards, and reassuring individuals who may be anxious about having blood taken. In many practices, phlebotomists support the clinical team by spotting issues that may need clinical attention, such as difficulties finding a vein or unexpected symptoms during a procedure. This role will work across 3 local practices: Rushden Medical Centre, County Surgery and Brook Medical Centre About us Rushden Medical Centre is a GP practice serving the community in and around Rushden. Job responsibilities The coreresponsibilities of the Phlebotomist are as follows. On occasion, there may bea requirement to carry out tasks not listed below, that are within thereasonable scope of the role. Obtainpatients consent for the collection of a blood sample Performingvenepuncture in accordance with practice protocols Correctlabelling, packaging and storing of samples Effectiveuse of the specimen log, resolving any discrepancies Ensuringsamples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner Maintainingan effective liaison with laboratory staff Workingcollaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary forpatient related matters In addition to thecore responsibilities, the Phlebotomist may be requested to; 1.Partake inaudit as directed by the audit lead 2.Participatein local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care 3.Supportand participate in shared learning throughout the organisation 4.Completeopening and closing procedures in accordance with the rota Person Specification Qualifications Educated to GCSE level or equivalent Qualification in Venepuncture Training in Infection Prevention and Control Experience Experience in a GP practice Experience with SystemOne Ability to record clinical notes Clear, polite telephone manner Competent in the use of Office and Outlook Ability to follow clinical policy and procedure Effective time management Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions. #J-18808-Ljbffr
