Trainee Horticulturist Woollahra Council – Double Bay, New South Wales Contract : Fixed term 2 years commencing 29 February 2026. Full‑time. Salary : $25,160.40 – $64,226.88 per annum plus 12% super. Responsibilities Learn all areas of horticulture: safe handling of plant equipment, plant identification, weeding, pruning and general maintenance tasks. Perform repetitive manual tasks associated with parks and garden maintenance at Christison Park (Vaucluse) and Cooper Park (Bellevue Hill). Complete a Certificate III in Horticulture on a full‑time basis over 24 months (theoretical component taught face‑to‑face at Ryde TAFE, one day per week starting 1 July 2025). About the Role This entry‑level position provides on‑the‑job training within Woollahra Council’s Open Space & Trees team. It focuses on collaboration, development and practical skill building in a professional horticulture environment. About You Self‑motivated, passionate about horticulture and eager to learn. A team‑player willing to get hands dirty and work collaboratively. Eligible candidates must have completed a School Certificate or Higher School Certificate and have not previously completed any tertiary qualifications in horticulture.> Essential Criteria Has not previously completed a qualification in horticulture or a related field. Class C Driver’s Licence (P1 licence also acceptable). Eligible for entry into Certificate III Horticulture under Smart & Skilled Training. Demonstrated basic knowledge and genuine interest in pursuing a horticulture career. Strong willingness to learn and ability to complete Certificate III Horticulture on a full‑time basis over 24 months. Well‑developed communication and numeracy skills. Commitment to providing excellent customer service. Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively as part of a team. Physically fit and able to complete allocated manual handling tasks as outlined in Section Eight (8) of the Position Description. Commitment to WHS and EEO policies.
