Proudly providing the communities of Western Victoria with opportunities to participate in indoor sports for over 40 years, Basketball Ballarat has grown into a large-scale multi‑sport organisation that it is today. The organisation is based at Selkirk Stadium, a state‑of‑the‑art $30 million 8‑court indoor sports precinct, which boasts a café, sports lounge, commercial gym, consulting suites and 3 outdoor 3x3 basketball courts. This, along with the privately owned 4 courts at the Buxton Minerdome, provides the community of Ballarat and Western Victoria with all they need to participate in indoor sports. Scope of Role As the Head Coach of the Ballarat Miners NBL1 Women’s program, you will lead the senior women’s team and work collaboratively with the Director of Coaching and Youth League coaches to plan the coordination of the women’s program. Your focus will be on delivering high‑performance coaching and player development for the NBL1 Women’s team. Primary Responsibilities Lead the development and implementation of the club’s basketball philosophy, performance standards, and coaching strategies for the senior women’s team. Build and maintain a culture of excellence, discipline, and inclusiveness within the senior women’s program. Work closely with the Senior Elite Teams Committee, Director of Coaching, and Strength & Conditioning staff to deliver cohesive athlete development programs. Conduct mid‑season and end‑of‑season performance and programme reviews specific to the senior women’s team. Promote basketball in the media, with sponsors, and community stakeholders to enhance the profile of the club and sport. Assist with recruitment of support staff and players, balancing regional talent development and competitive needs, including imports. Direct team practices, individual workouts, and weights training in both pre‑season and in‑season phases. Manage support staff and senior player operations for the senior women’s team. Set and review team and player goals, ensuring workload and welfare are proactively managed. Lead game‑night coaching, including preparation and opposition scouting. Foster cohesion and clear communication with Youth League coaches regarding training plans and team selections for the women’s program. Skills / Attributes Be of good character; willing to submit to a National Police Certificate check and hold a current Victorian Working with Children Check Card. Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills; approachable and motivational public speaker. Effective administrator with sound report writing and programme management abilities. Experienced in sports coaching and programme management, with demonstrated success at the elite/representative level. Commitment to professional development and coach accreditation renewal. Proficiency in sports technology (video editing/scouting software) and general computer skills. Capacity and willingness to make decisions within delegated authority, balanced with initiative and common sense. Qualifications (Mandatory and Desirable) Minimum: Basketball Australia Association Coach Accreditation (Level 2). Highly Desirable: Basketball Australia High Performance Coach Accreditation (Level 3). Demonstrated success in coaching elite/state/national or senior representative teams. Compliance with all Basketball Victoria and Basketball Australia policies, including safeguarding and member protection. Valid driver’s licence.
