Senior Clinical Teaching Instructor (Optometry) Melbourne Teaching Health Clinics – Carlton VIC Melbourne Teaching Health Clinics (MTHC) is a non‑for‑profit, wholly owned subsidiary of the University of Melbourne and provides world‑class clinical training opportunities for the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences students. It also provides patient access to high‑quality health care for members of the Victorian community, within a private practice setting. Click here to find out more: About the Role The Senior Clinical Teaching Instructor position at Melbourne Eyecare Clinic offers an exciting opportunity to combine clinical expertise with educational leadership. The role is pivotal in shaping the next generation of optometrists while delivering exceptional patient care and supporting clinic growth and sustainability. Key responsibilities include: Supervising Doctor of Optometry (OD) students during patient consultations Providing direct optometric services during non‑teaching periods Supporting clinical teaching and driving continuous improvement in clinical education and patient care Driving clinic growth through strategic partnerships, optimisation of patient flow and business development strategies Please note: this is a 12‑month maximum term, part‑time (0.6711 full‑time equivalent) position. About you Essential Selection Criteria Clinical qualification in Optometry enabling practice in Australia, with current AHPRA registration and extensive demonstrated clinical practice experience. Endorsement to prescribe approved S4 therapeutics drugs for the management of ocular disease. Extensive experience in the provision of clinical supervision to optometry students. Excellent patient management and interpersonal skills with the ability to tailor communication and build effective relationships across a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to be innovative and analytical to identify creative solutions. Excellent organisational and time management skills with an ability to work independently. Strong computer skills including all MS Office products. Desirable Selection Criteria Experience using Patient Management Systems (SUNIX, Optomate, etc). Experience in business development, growth of service offerings, and/or clinical teaching. Experience working with adults and children. Demonstrated experience in a senior position, with ability to mentor and motivate staff.
