National Legal Aid (NLA) Executive Director Salary: $209,807 to $254,964 per annum plus 15.4% superannuation. Full time, fixed term 3-year contract. Full PBI salary packaging available. This position will be employed (hosted) by Legal Aid ACT. The incumbent may work remotely with access to a State or Territory Legal Aid when required. National Legal Aid (NLA) represents the directors of the eight state and territory legal aid commissions (Legal Aids) in Australia which are independent statutory authorities funded by the Commonwealth and their respective state or territory governments. We are looking for an Executive Director with passion and drive to continue the success of NLA’s mission to improve access to justice for people experiencing disadvantage. This is an exciting role leading, influencing and advocating for national legal services, leading and influencing national law reform, developing and implementing best practice, and enhancing the legal assistance sector's performance across Australia. The Executive Director will focus on advancing NLA’s objectives through strategic policy advocacy, national stakeholder engagement, and strengthening data analysis and evidence to inform decision-making. This position is key to enhancing NLA’s national leadership and influence, continually building community awareness of the essential role of Legal Aid and the legal assistance sector. The Role As the Executive Director, you will: Lead and deliver on NLA’s current Strategic Plan, ensuring its alignment with the goals of the National Legal Assistance Partnership (NLAP) Drive the implementation of national legal services, collaborating with key stakeholders to develop best practice and reforms in the legal assistance sector About You To succeed in this role, you will bring: Strategic Leadership: Proven ability to lead complex, national-scale initiatives and coordinate multiple stakeholders across different jurisdictions. Advocacy Expertise: Experience advocating for national legislative reforms and public policy changes, particularly in areas of family law, immigration, and Indigenous justice. Stakeholder Engagement: Ability to build and maintain relationships with government officials, legal service providers, and community organisations. Data and Evidence Use: Strong experience in using data to inform advocacy and decision-making processes. Media engagement, Public Speaking and Representation: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to represent NLA in the media, at national forums and in consultations with key stakeholders.
