About the Role The Senior Database Developer will take ownership of database performance, design, and reliability for our Units/Equip product line, ensuring our Sybase SQL Anywhere databases are efficient, consistent, and positioned for future modernisation. You will have strong SQL development and optimisation skills, with a focus on delivering measurable performance improvements and maintaining data integrity across environments. The successful applicant will work collaboratively with subject matter experts, other developers/programmers, business analysts and customers as well as perform analysis on requirements, conceptualise and designing solutions, working in an environment that is continually changing based on customer demands and it requires small and frequent changes requiring flexibility, ability to change priorities quickly and the capacity to handle multiple tasks. The Senior Database Developer will be responsible for ensure the efficiency, scalability, and reliability of the Units/Equip application’s database schema, identifying and implementing improvements to schema design, indexes, keys, and constraints, developing and maintaining high‑performance stored procedures, triggers, and functions in Sybase SQL Anywhere 17, ensuring optimal query execution and resource usage. The role proactively identifies performance bottlenecks and optimises indexes, query plans, and configurations to improve speed and efficiency. What You Need to Have 5+ years of experience in SQL development and database optimisation, ideally in Sybase SQL Anywhere or similar relational database platforms. Proven experience writing efficient stored procedures, triggers, and functions. Strong understanding of indexing strategies, query execution plans, and database profiling tools. Experience supporting database modernization or platform transition initiatives. Familiarity with ETL pipelines, data transformation, and scripting (e.g., Python, PowerShell). Knowledge of DevOps practices and source‑controlled database development is an asset. Experience with source‑controlled database environments (e.g., Git‑integrated SQL workflows). Exposure to PostgreSQL, SQL Server, and other modern RDBMS platforms. Ability to adapt SQL practices across different database technologies. Excellent analytical, communication, and documentation skills.
