Our client's products support sustainable water management and environmental protection across Australia and worldwide. As the new Lead Draftsperson , you’ll take ownership of the company's SolidWorks system while guiding the broader drafting function to deliver high-quality, accurate and consistent outcomes. This role can be performed primarily from home in Melbourne. However, to ensure a strong onboarding and handover, you’ll spend approximately the first two weeks on-site at our Northern Victoria head office (Cohuna), followed by visits every month or two. We are seeking someone who is available to start immediately and before Christmas week. About the Role As Lead Draftsperson, you will be the go-to authority for all things SolidWorks. You’ll oversee drafting quality, system consistency, and continuous improvement across the drafting and design workflow. While designers build 3D models and 2D drawings, you will focus on the accuracy, rigour, and standardisation that underpin all outputs. Key Responsibilities Maintain and manage the entire SolidWorks system, libraries, and drafting standards Be the first point of contact for SolidWorks queries, design principles, and system optimisation Conduct final checks and drawing reviews prior to material ordering Standardise library parts and ensure drafting practices remain consistent and compliant Lead training, development, and onboarding for drafting and design staff Drive process improvements to enhance drafting efficiency and accuracy Support a culture of quality, collaboration, and continuous learning About You You’re a seasoned drafter with deep SolidWorks experience and the leadership capability to guide others. You’ll bring: 10+ years of SolidWorks design and drafting experience (long tenure in previous roles is highly regarded) Strong understanding of SolidWorks and confidence recommending system improvements Excellent knowledge of drafting standards, principles, and quality assurance practices High attention to detail and proven ability to review and check complex drawings Experience drafting or designing components for water-control, flow-control, or water-management applications is highly advantageous. This includes systems for irrigation modernisation, flood mitigation, dams, stormwater, water extraction, diversion, screening, and fish protection. Familiarity with key gate and control products is valuable, as well as screens such as cylinder, polymer, cone, trash racks, and fish-protection screens, plus associated actuation systems. Knowledge of typical construction materials is also beneficial, including stainless steels (304, 316, 2205 duplex), mild steel with protective coatings, aluminium, HDPE, rubber seals, and composite materials used in screens and specialised gate components.
