Assistant Principal Special Education - Merimbula Public School NSW Department of Education – Merimbula NSW Merimbula Public School is situated in the heart of Merimbula, a coastal tourism capital of the Sapphire Coast. The school's enrolment is 435 students. Enrolments include mainstream students, High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) students; Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students (9%); students who have English as an Additional Language/Dialect (EAL/D) (17%); as well as students with additional learning needs (20%) as measured by the 2024 Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD), some of whom access additional support whilst working within one of our school's four support classes. Merimbula Public School's support classes provide a tailored environment to optimise student learning through embedded best‑practice teaching and learning programs, with consistent support. Merimbula Public School is proud to be part of the Sapphire Coast Learning Community of Public Schools and stands on Djirringanj Country, within the Yuin Nation. The school has a partnership with Aurora College, offering alternate Opportunity Class (OC) pathways for students identified as having high potential or as being gifted. Position Information This role combines the administrative duties of an Assistant Principal with the responsibilities of a Special Education Teacher. Candidates must hold an unconditional full approval to teach and be able to manage a dual role in a support class setting, teaching students with autism, intellectual disabilities and complex learning and behavioural needs. Selection Criteria Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with autism, intellectual disabilities and complex learning and behavioural needs within a support class, with demonstrated ability to effectively manage the dual role of Assistant Principal and exemplary special education teacher. Proven ability to lead teams in designing, implementing and evaluating differentiated learning programs that cater to diverse student needs, supported by effective classroom and trauma‑informed management strategies. Demonstrated experience in establishing and maintaining a high standard of strong, genuine partnerships with parents and various stakeholders in a dynamic setting catering for the educational provision of a range of students with disabilities. Demonstrated capacity and experience in leading teachers to develop and implement innovative and differentiated learning programs, including Personalised Learning and Support Plans, designed to improve outcomes for all students K‑6 with additional learning and support needs. General Selection Criteria Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy. Conditions An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement.
