School of Communication and Arts Part-time (0.5 FTE), fixed-term position from January 2026 – December 2026 FTE base salary: $82,057.75 – $109,246.18 + 17% superannuation (Academic Level A) FTE base salary: $114,824.05 – $136,048.72 + 17% superannuation (Academic Level B) Based at our St Lucia campus About This Opportunity The School of Communication and Arts is seeking to appoint an outstanding Associate Lecturer (Level A), or Lecturer (Level B), in English Literature. The role will involve course coordination, innovative pedagogy, and collaborative engagement that enhances teaching practices and student experience across the school. Key Responsibilities Teaching Teach and coordinate undergraduate and postgraduate courses in English Literature. Design and deliver effective curriculum, assessments, and learning activities. Update course materials to ensure contemporary and engaging content. Maintain high-quality teaching performance and provide academic support to students. Apply University rules and teaching policies. Supervision & Researcher Development Supervise Honours, Masters, and HDR students where appropriate. Support the development and engagement of supervisees. Citizenship & Service Contribute to School service, committees, and teaching initiatives. Build professional and community relationships. Demonstrate behaviours aligned with UQ values. Other Comply with all relevant legislation, policies, and the Code of Conduct. Perform other duties as required. This is a teaching-focused position. About You You should demonstrate: PhD in English Literature or a closely related field. Expertise in one or more of the following areas: Contemporary literature (fiction, life writing, poetry). Global or transnational literatures. Australian literature, including Indigenous literary cultures. Gender, sexuality, identity, or diversity-focused literary approaches. An emerging profile (Level A) or growing profile (Level B) in teaching with evidence of high-quality university teaching in English Literature across a variety of settings with course coordination responsibilities. Ability to coordinate courses and contribute to the development and innovation of curricula and course material. An emerging record of supervision of student projects. Experience in internal service roles and an emerging profile (Level A) or growing profile (Level B) of professional expertise that complements the School. In addition to the above, for appointment at Level B: Ability to develop curricula and design effective learning materials and assessment tasks Evidence of ability to supervise student projects to successful completion Active contributions to external service activities.
