Behavioral Health Consultant Department: Behavioral HealthJob Status: Full TimeFLSA Status: ExemptReports To: Director of Behavioral HealthAmount of Travel Required: up to 50%Positions Supervised: None JOB SUMMARY The Behavioral Health Consultant is part of the primary care team and under the supervision of the Director of Behavioral Health. The primary purpose is to work in conjunction with the health services within the health center to provide behavioral health and health consultation to children, adolescents, adults and families to improve psychosocial functioning and overall health outcomes. The role demands the ability to interact with federal, state, and local agencies to maximize resources, coordinate program development goals, and engage in continuous quality improvement practices within a Patient Centered Medical Home model of care. RESPONSIBILITIES Consult with patients and assist the PCP with assessment and co‑management of target problems. Conduct assessments and brief, focused interventions, and/or consultations geared toward early identification, triage, quick resolution, and long‑term wellness. Evaluate crisis situations and apply appropriate interventions. Assist in the direction of at‑risk patients and develop plans to prevent further psychological or physical deterioration. Provide timely and succinct feedback to PCPs about all referred patients. Maintain a small caseload of patients providing short‑term psychotherapy services utilizing evidence‑based practices. Assist with referrals to other services (e.g., substance abuse treatment facilities, specialty care, community resources) as needed. Support the expansion and enhancement of the integrated behavioral health program. Maintain accurate and timely records of services provided to each patient. Adhere to applicable regulatory guidelines and laws, including HIPAA/HITECH, CLIA, HRSA, and OSHA. Provide reports and updates to the COO as assigned in a timely manner. Serve as part of the care team; follow and implement workflows that support and sustain the MHSI Patient Centered Medical Home model of care. Participate in all Risk Management activities as assigned. Travel for meetings, classes, conferences, and training by air as needed. Other duties as assigned by the COO. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Stand, walk, sit, lift, carry, push, pull, reach, bend, climb, crawl, squat or kneel activities are performed at frequencies ranging from occasionally to frequently. Lift weights of 10 lbs or less are frequently performed; 11‑20 lbs occasionally; 21‑50 lbs occasionally. Push/pull activities of 12 lbs or less occasionally; 13‑25 lbs occasionally; 26‑40 lbs occasionally. Vision and hearing requirements are near and color vision, telephone and verbal conversations, and touch sense. The occupation requires these activities up to 33% of the time (0‑2.5+ hrs/day) and from 33%‑66% of the time (2.5‑5.5+ hrs/day). The occupation requires these activities more than 66% of the time (5.5+ hrs/day). QUALIFICATIONS LCSW, LPC, or Licensed Clinical Psychologist with a Ph.D. or Psy.D. from an APA approved Clinical Psychology program. Computer literate in Microsoft Word and Excel. Able to perform proficiently on current practice management systems and/or electronic medical records. Excellent working knowledge of behavioral medicine and evidence‑based treatments for medical and mental health conditions. Good knowledge of psychopharmacology. Excellent communication, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively with people of all backgrounds. Ability to take direction and work well with a team but also be self‑motivated. Bilingual preferred (Spanish). Engages in professional development activities, such as trainings and CEUs. Ability to work brief patient contacts and make quick and accurate clinical assessment of mental health and behavioral conditions. Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner. WORK ENVIRONMENT An office environment in a controlled atmosphere building. This is an OSHA low‑risk position. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS Reports directly to the Behavioral Health Director. EVALUATION Annual evaluation performed by Behavioral Health Director. STATUS This is a FLSA Exempt position. This is an OSHA low risk position. This is an ADA negotiable position. This is a safety sensitive position (Arkansas Act 593 of 2017).
