Join to apply for the Senior Ranger role at Queensland Government. Step into a pivotal role shaping the future of fire management across Queensland’s Northern Region. As the AO5 Fire Support Officer, you’ll drive the QPWS&P Fire Program, lead essential PPRR functions, and ensure our work meets state legislation, national best practice, and the Queensland Bushfire Plan. You’ll design and coordinate planned burns, strengthen bushfire preparedness and response, build staff capabilities through training, guide lessons management, and oversee key fire projects and specialised equipment. You’ll forge partnerships with the Queensland Fire Department, First Nations communities, and regional stakeholders, representing QPWS&P in high‑impact fire forums. This dynamic mix of leadership, fieldwork, and adventure—traveling across remote landscapes—requires someone ready to protect Queensland’s unique environments. Ignite Your Career as an AO5 Fire Support Officer—Help Protect Queensland's Wild Places Ready to take on a role where your work truly matters and every day brings new, meaningful challenges? The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service & Partnerships (QPWS&P) is looking for an enthusiastic, motivated Fire Support Officer to lead the Fire Management Support function within our Northern Regional Fire Team. Your work will support the region’s lessons management program, guide fire‑funded projects, maintain specialised plant and equipment, and help ensure governance and reporting remain rock solid. You will be at the centre of fire management action, shaping planned burns, coordinating fire operations, supporting bushfire response, and leading continuous improvement and innovation. Travel—including overnight stays—is part of this role, allowing you to base yourself in iconic areas across the Northern Region while collaborating with Queensland Fire Department, First Nations communities, local partners, and land managers. You will represent QPWS&P in internal governance groups and external fire forums, making your voice count in important conversations. Whether you’re planning strategic burns, inspecting equipment in remote sheds, or meeting partners to build better fire outcomes, no two days will look the same. What Rangers Do Rangers are the heart and soul of Queensland's protected areas: they keep national parks, state forests and reserves healthy, safe, and accessible, working across conservation, recreation, cultural heritage, compliance and community engagement. Rangers support outcomes under the Nature Conservation Act 1992, Marine Parks Act 2004 and Forestry Act 1959. If you're passionate about fire, teamwork, the environment, and being part of something bigger, this is your chance to make a real impact.
