About the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission
The Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission (the Commission) was formed on 1 January 2019. The role of the Commission is to protect and enhance the safety, health, wellbeing and quality of life of people receiving aged care.
The Commission is the national end-to-end regulator of aged care services and the primary point of contact for consumers and providers in relation to quality and safety. Our vision is to support a world-class aged care system driven by empowered consumers who enjoy the best possible quality of life.
We aim to build confidence and trust in aged care, empower consumers, promote best practice service provision, promote quality standards and hold providers to account for their performance against the expected standards of care. We seek to promote an aged care system that develops safer systems of care, inculcates a culture of safety and quality, and learns from mistakes, while providing the oversight that can assure the community that aged care services are operating as they should, including working on continuous improvement.
About the TeamThe Chief Clinical Advisor Group protects and enhances the safety, health and well-being and quality of life of people receiving aged care by driving a higher standard of clinical rigour across the aged care sector.
The Clinical Education Unit provides aged care clinical subject matter expertise and provision of clinical education to staff in the Commission. The Unit is committed to providing the Commission with quality, fit for purpose and evidence-based clinical education and subject matter expertise to support internal and external stakeholders to improve the care of older Australians.
The Clinical Education Unit is a newly established team responsible for designing, delivering and evaluating clinical education and clinical resources to support staff capability uplift across the Commission and its regulatory functions. The team is responsible for several education programs across the Commission and delivering key projects with a focus on clinical capability to support staff knowledge and understanding of clinical risk in aged care. The Unit includes two teams - an Operations team and a Project and Business Improvement team. These teams work together to deliver and support the delivery of education activities across the Commission.

The Clinical Education Lead role reports to and supports the Director of the Clinical Education Unit to coordinate and lead a range of education programs for clinical and non-clinical staff within the Commission, coordinate and contribute subject matter expertise and manage projects relating to clinical education and resources. The Clinical Education Lead will manage and lead a small team of staff at the APS6 and/or APS5 level. While the role will be dedicated to a specific team within the Clinical Education unit, flexibility is required to work alongside the Operations team and the Project and Business Improvement team.
The key duties of the position include:Clinical Leadership:
Provide clinical leadership within the team and across the Commission to promote, educate and foster an understanding of clinical issues and clinical risk. This includes supporting a team of APS6 Education Officers and an APS 5 Program Support Officer to develop and embed the governance processes related to the education function of the Clinical Education Unit.Clinical education:
Coordinate the delivery of clinical education, and learning and development activities across the Commission, including providing strategic direction and support to Clinical Education Officers in preparing, delivering, and evaluating clinical education in a range of formats (verbal presentations, written and workshops). This includes fostering a co-design and collaborative approach to the development and delivery of clinical education with relevant internal and external stakeholders.Project management:
Lead and contribute to a range of projects relating to the clinical capability uplift of staff across the Commission, including clinicians and non-clinicians. This includes supporting APS6 staff to develop and prioritise projects with a focus on learning and development in line with a project management approach. The Lead will be responsible for ensuring that project plans are clearly documented, and deliverables and timelines are met and where delays occur, that this is reported to the Director and managed accordingly.Clinical innovation:
Identify, develop and execute innovative solutions to improve the Unit's approach to clinical education and enhance clinical capability across Commission staff. This includes proactively seeking and assessing processes that have the potential to improve practice relating to clinical education and skill uplift, collaborating with stakeholders and developing strategic plan/s to integrate new innovations into existing workflows.Staff supervision and onboarding:
Supervising and leading a team of APS staff within the Clinical Education Unit by setting tasks and priorities that align with the strategic direction of the organisation, Group and section. This will involve guiding, mentoring, training and developing staff to achieve results and build team capability and performance.Flexibility and organisation:
Reporting to the Director, manage workload to respond to the changing priorities of the Commission and the regulatory environment. Supports and guides APS staff through change so that the team are responsive to the needs of the business unit. An understanding and ability to consider the political landscape and think strategically when planning work is key to this role.
