About Gridsight Electricity grids are undergoing the most significant transformation in a century. The shift to renewables, the proliferation of rooftop solar, batteries, and EVs, and the increasing complexity of distribution networks are forcing utilities to operate their grids in fundamentally new ways. Gridsight builds the analytics platform that makes this possible. We're already embedded with most of Australia's major distribution networks and have contracts with some of the largest investor‑owned utilities in the United States. We're well‑funded, growing quickly, and positioned at the center of a global shift toward dynamic grid management. The Role We're hiring a Data Science Lead to build and run the data science function at Gridsight. You'll manage a team of data scientists (initially 3+), set the technical vision and strategy for the function, and establish the practices that enable high‑quality, production‑ready work. You'll work closely with our CEO who has deep technical experience in the domain, and our VP of Engineering to ensure data science capabilities align with product and commercial goals — and you'll stay hands‑on technically, contributing directly where needed. This is a leadership role with real scope. You'll shape how data science operates at Gridsight: team structure, workflows, standards, and technical direction. You'll guide work across grid modeling, optimization, and emerging capabilities. And you'll be a key voice in translating customer problems into technical roadmaps. We're building toward a layered vision of grid analytics, optimization engines, and agentic workflows. You'll be responsible for developing the team and capabilities to deliver it. What You'll Do Manage and develop the data science team, fostering technical growth and high performance Set data science vision and strategy in collaboration with engineering leadership Establish best practices across model selection, experimental design, validation, and deployment Contribute hands‑on to technical work where needed, flexing into gaps across modeling, optimization, or new capabilities Collaborate with commercial and product teams to translate customer needs into technical roadmaps Guide the team on appropriate model complexity — balancing rigor with practical delivery Contribute to technical strategy and architectural decisions alongside engineering leadership Foster a collaborative, learning‑oriented culture in a scale‑up environment What You'll Bring Experience building, managing, and developing data science teams Strong data science foundations: statistical modeling, ML, experimental design, and the judgment to set standards and guide technical decisions Experience shaping data science functions, workflows, and team structures Ability to collaborate with non‑technical stakeholders and translate business problems into technical solutions Hands‑on technical capability — you can contribute directly, not just oversee Leadership experience in a senior or management capacity What Would Set You Apart Experience with decision engines or recommendation systems Grid domain knowledge or energy sector experience Optimization expertise Scale‑up or high‑growth company experience Software engineering and MLOps depth Experience managing distributed or remote teams What We Offer $190,000–$230,000+ depending on experience, plus equity Remote‑first, with head office in Sydney A talented team of engineers, data scientists, and power‑systems specialists working on hard problems that matter Sound Interesting?
