Overview Diesel Mechanic (Vehicle Service Coordinator) – support the Fleet Management team at Melbourne Airport. The role ensures a large fleet of specialised trucks remain road‑worthy, repairs and parts are identified and completed efficiently and safely, while maintaining minimal downtime and accurate mechanical diagnosis reporting. Responsibilities Inspect and test drive vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and confirm safe operation. Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings and other critical components to ensure proper operating condition. Troubleshoot fuel, ignition and emissions control systems using electronic diagnostics. Tune engines for optimal and efficient functioning. Repair, replace or adjust defective parts. Perform scheduled routine maintenance. Install or repair air conditioners and service components such as compressors, condensers and controls. Manage spare parts and update the vehicle maintenance system. Co‑ordinate services and repairs performed by contractors/service providers in consultation with operations to minimise business impact. Provide after‑hours on‑call support for breakdowns. Qualifications Mechanical trade qualifications. Heavy rigid license or ability to obtain one. Proven diagnostic skills on diesel vehicles. Electrical and PLC knowledge essential. Good written and verbal communication and computer proficiency (MS Excel and Word). Ability to work flexible shifts and overtime as required.
