The successful candidate will commence their university studies and work placement in March 2026. About Loy Yang B Loy Yang B is a brown coal‑fired power station in Victoria’s Latrobe Valley. About the Opportunity 4‑year fixed‑term employment opportunity while you undertake your university degree. Flexible hours enabling work to be scheduled around study commitments (average of 18 hours p/week). What you’ll do Translate theoretical knowledge from your studies into hands‑on experience by: Assisting in the identification and remediation of short and long‑term maintenance issues. Assisting in areas of engineering including installation, maintenance and repair of power generation equipment, statutory compliance, and efficiency and performance of the coal‑fired generating facility. Being involved in projects for construction of new plant, improving and modifying existing plant, and improving plant condition. Learning and applying engineering standards, procedures, and safety regulations relevant to power generation. What you’ll need To be successful you must demonstrate: An eagerness to learn, analytical mindset, and capacity to adjust quickly to new challenges. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and proven ability to collaborate with others. A requirement of this cadetship is to obtain successful entry into the Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical)(Honours) at Federation University. Entry requirements for the degree include: For Year 12 students (or Year 12 graduates within the past two years) Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 20 in any English. Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 20 in one of Mathematics: Mathematical Methods or Maths: Specialist Mathematics. For non‑Year 12 students / mature‑age applicants Previous higher education studies with results at a pass level, including any 'single subjects of study', or successful completion of a tertiary preparatory course such as the Federation Access Studies Program (FAST). For applicants with previous Vocational Education and Training study Successful completion of a relevant VET qualification at Certificate III level or higher. For applicants with work and life experience Applicants who have not completed secondary education or undertaken any TAFE or university studies will not be eligible for direct entry. Applicants in this category should consider a pathway course such as Federation Access Studies (FAST) Program.
