Senior Infrastructure Tech Lead – PostgreSQL Westpac Group is seeking a Senior Technical Lead to design and implement PostgreSQL database solutions, ensuring security, compliance, and operational excellence across our enterprise systems. What’s the role? This role will be responsible for designing and implementing PostgreSQL database solutions, ensuring security and compliance, collaborating with teams to deliver business‑aligned outcomes, automating operations with DevOps tools, optimising database performance, and providing technical guidance through documentation, presentations, and workshops. The role also involves staying updated on PostgreSQL trends and acting as the escalation point for complex issues. Responsibilities Designing and implementing PostgreSQL database solutions. Ensuring security and compliance of database environments. Collaborating with cross‑functional teams to align technical solutions with business goals. Automating operations using DevOps tools. Optimising database performance and capacity. Providing technical guidance through documentation, presentations, and workshops. Remaining current on PostgreSQL advancements and emerging trends. Acting as the escalation point for complex PostgreSQL‑related issues. Qualifications Essential Deep understanding of PostgreSQL architecture, infrastructure, and storage, including cloud deployments on Azure and AWS. Advanced knowledge of database security best practices, encryption, auditing, and compliance requirements. Experience with scripting and automation tools such as Ansible, Jenkins, Terraform. Proficiency in performance tuning, diagnostics, and optimisation of PostgreSQL databases. Exposure to PostgreSQL, Cosmos DB, or other NoSQL databases. Willingness to work flexible hours to support critical systems. Desirable Advanced SQL, Python, and Shell scripting skills. Engineering experience across holistic technology stacks.
