Classroom Teacher – Business Management / Maths Department of Education Victoria – Mont Albert North VIC Box Hill Senior Secondary College (Years 9‑12) is a co‑educational senior secondary college located in Mont Albert North. The school offers a rich and diverse educational programme to students across the Inner East of Melbourne, including VCE subjects, VCE VM, on‑site VET programmes, Industry‑Based‑Learning courses, School‑Based Apprenticeships (SBAT) and specialist Sport Academy programmes. The college is undergoing significant change and improvement and is looking to build upon its teaching and learning programme to better meet students’ needs. Teachers are expected to practise a learner‑centred, inclusive approach that supports and challenges each student. Students pursue their passions through inquiry learning projects and pathway courses, developing confidence, leadership and a positive mindset. Selection Criteria SC1 Demonstrated knowledge of the relevant curriculum, including the ability to incorporate the teaching of literacy and numeracy skills and experience responding to student learning needs. SC2 Demonstrated experience in planning and implementing high‑impact teaching strategies, guided by how students learn, and evaluating the impact of learning and teaching programmes on student growth. SC3 Demonstrated experience in monitoring and assessing student learning; using data to inform teaching practice and providing feedback on student growth and achievement to students and parents. SC4 Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills; experience in establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with students, parents, colleagues and the broader school community to support student learning, agency, wellbeing and engagement. SC5 Demonstrated behaviours and attitudes consistent with Department values; experience in reflecting upon practice and engaging in professional learning to continually improve teaching quality. Role The classroom teacher classification has two salary ranges – range 1 and range 2. The primary focus of the classroom teacher is on the planning, preparation and teaching of programmes to achieve specific student outcomes. Classroom teachers engage in critical reflection and inquiry to improve knowledge and skills. As teachers gain experience, their contributions beyond the classroom increase. Classroom teachers may be required to undertake additional duties, provided the responsibilities align with their salary range, qualifications, training and experience. Range 2 Play a significant role in improving student performance and educational outcomes, contributing to the development and implementation of school policies and priorities. Support staff in raising their knowledge base about student learning and high‑quality instruction. Have the content knowledge and pedagogical practice to meet the diverse needs of all students. Model exemplary classroom practice and mentor/coach other teachers, supporting staff to expand their capacity. Provide expert advice on content, processes and strategies that shape professional learning. Supervise and train one or more student teachers. Assist staff in using student data to inform teaching approaches and achieve learning outcomes targets. Range 1 Develop skills and competencies to become an effective classroom practitioner under structured support and guidance from higher‑level teachers. Plan, prepare and teach programmes to achieve specific outcomes for a range of students and classes. Operate under general direction within clear guidelines, following established work practices and documented priorities. Supervise and train one or more student teachers. Participate in the development of school policies and programmes and assist in implementing school priorities. Focus on classroom management, subject content and teaching practice. Responsibilities Direct teaching of groups or individual students. Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of a curriculum area or other programme within the school. Undertake other classroom‑teaching related and organisational duties as determined by the school principal. Participate in activities such as parent‑teacher meetings, staff meetings, camps and excursions. Undertake non‑teaching supervisory duties. Who May Apply Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach, and/or with demonstrated experience in the specified curriculum area(s). If completed an Australian postgraduate level initial teaching program or course of study on or after 1 January 2024, a post‑graduate level accredited initial teacher education programme accredited by an Australian State or Territory Teacher Regulatory Authority must be demonstrated. Graduates from a Victorian ITE programme after 1 July 2016 must also demonstrate that they have passed the literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education (LANTITE).
