Deputy Solicitor Operations, Briefing Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions NSW Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions Public Service Senior Executive, Band 1 The Deputy Solicitor Operations, Briefing will lead the creation and implementation of a new, centralised Briefing Unit for the office - driving the development of briefing plans, policies, and procedures in partnership with key stakeholders. This position will play a key role in change management, stakeholder engagement, and continuous improvement, shaping the future of briefing practices at the ODPP. About the Role We are looking for a dynamic, respected and experienced senior legal manager with a strategic focus to join the Solicitor's Executive, reporting directly to the Solicitor for Public Prosecutions. The Solicitor's Executive develop, implement and champion innovative policies, procedures and work practices to ensure that the most efficient prosecution service is delivered, and our staff are provided the opportunity to enjoy rewarding and challenging careers. As Deputy Solicitor Operations, Briefing, you will lead the development of the ODPP's new Briefing Unit including the implementation of a comprehensive briefing plan, related policies, and procedures, working in close consultation with key stakeholders including Crown Prosecutors, Solicitor Advocates, and the Solicitors Executive to centralise and streamline briefing practices across the State, ensuring timely delivery of a high‑quality prosecution service. Key Accountabilities Lead the establishment and ongoing management of the new Briefing Unit. Develop, implement, and update briefing plans, policies, and procedures in consultation with stakeholders. Oversee the centralised briefing function, ensuring consistency and efficiency across the State. Assess and allocate complex, sensitive, and high‑profile briefs to the appropriate advocates. Manage and develop staff within the Briefing Unit to achieve organisational objectives. Foster effective communication and collaboration between the Solicitor's Office, Crown Prosecutors' Chambers, Director's Chambers, and external partners. Drive change management initiatives to embed new briefing protocols and practices. Represent the ODPP on interagency committees and policy reform initiatives. Leading significant change in briefing practices and managing impacts on existing staff and resources. Balancing efficient statewide rostering and briefing of work to a diverse group of advocates. Ensuring the timely and effective delivery of prosecution services in a dynamic and high‑pressure environment. Degree or diploma in law and admission as an Australian legal practitioner. Australian Practising Certificate issued by the Law Society of NSW, authorising supervision of legal practice by others. Extensive experience in criminal justice with senior‑level management experience. Detailed knowledge of criminal practice and procedure within NSW. Remuneration Public Sector Senior Executive Band 1 – total remuneration package to be negotiated with the successful applicant. How to Apply Please read the role description here.
