Design Lead

We have an exciting fixed term 12 month contract for a visionary Product Design Lead to shape and elevate the digital news experience across Seven West Media's platforms whilst championing user-centricity at every level of the organisation. This role is critical to embedding design thinking across the organisation and creating user-first solutions that are intuitive, impactful, and aligned with business goals. You will lead a small team of three other designers and work closely with cross functional teams including newsroom leadership, product managers, engineers, and marketers to deliver best-in-class digital experience that inform, engage and delight our audiences. About the Role Lead the design of high-impact features across our web and mobile platforms. Collaborate with cross-functional teams – Product, Engineering, Editorial, and Marketing – to deliver user-centred data-informed solutions. Drive design strategy for a complex content-driven ecosystem with subscription and membership elements. Present work and design rationale clearly to senior stakeholders and guide more junior designers when required. Support the design team to deliver strategic outcomes by clarifying goals and assisting in guiding product experience to meet strategic outcomes. Lead the development of larger-scale research plans and design initiatives to plan meaningful outcome-focused work. Design and monitor key UX metrics to monitor and ensure positive outcomes for both users and the business. Maintain design tool subscriptions (Figma and Dovetail) and configuration so our usage does not exceed budgeted amounts. About You Bachelor or Master's degree in a relevant field such as Interaction Design, User Experience (UX), Design, Product (UX / UI) Design, Industrial Design or a related discipline. 5–10 years of experience in product design, preferably within content-rich or subscription-based platforms. Experience with Agile, Lean UX methodologies. A strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end product design across mobile and web surfaces ideally with measurable impact. Deep understanding of design systems, interaction design and user research methodologies. Proven ability to collaborate across disciplines and advocate for user needs while balancing business objectives. Confidence in working with agile teams and contributing to iterative product development. Advanced computer / software skills in Slack, Jira, Confluence, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and digital whiteboarding software such as Mural or Miro. Knowledge and ability to rapidly acquire an understanding of the news and media industries. An interest in AI transformation for design workflows.
