Hatchery & Nursery Technician

An excellent opportunity has become available for a full time hatchery and nursery technician at 888 Abalone in Bremer Bay. This is a hands‑on position that would be well suited to a recent university or TAFE graduate. The successful candidate will be working with the Hatchery Manager to rear up to 4 million juvenile abalone per year in the 888 hatchery and nurseries. This is a great opportunity to gain entry‑level experience in one of the most important phases of abalone aquaculture and be trained in all aspects of juvenile husbandry. There may be future opportunities to grow within the role and the company hopes to provide future career paths for the suitable applicant. Duties and Responsibilities Assisting the hatchery manager with annual spawning's and larval rearing. Larval and broodstock husbandry. Husbandry of micro‑algae cultures. Upkeep and monitoring of filtration systems. Data recording, analysis and report writing. Ideal Candidate Attributes A well driven individual that is motivated to succeed. Physically fit and comfortable with manual labour. Comfortable living in a regional town. Enjoys working outdoors. Excellent attention to detail. Can work with minimal supervision. Good time management and organisation skills. Ability to work varied hours and on weekends when required. Proficient in the use of microscopes and laboratory equipment. Australian permanent residents only. Qualifications, Skills and Experience Qualifications in aquaculture or marine science (university degree, TAFE certificate, diploma or equivalent). Experience with aquaculture or farming desired but not essential. Understanding of basic pumps and plumbing systems desirable but not essential.
