Senior Automation Tester Location: Melbourne, Brisbane or Remote within Australia At Breadcrumb, we’re building technology that makes worksites safer, more connected, and more compliant – trusted by leading construction and industrial businesses globally. What You’ll Do Own the automation strategy – design, build, document and maintain scalable testing systems for mobile, web, API, and component testing using modern tools and languages. Embed quality in delivery – work closely with developers and product leads to define acceptance criteria, apply TDD/BDD principles, and review code for testability. Automate everything that matters – create reusable test utilities, selectors, and data factories that minimise maintenance cost. Integrate and scale – run automated tests reliably in CI/CD pipelines, containerised environments (Docker/Kubernetes), and cloud execution. Make testing visible – implement traceability, reporting, and performance metrics to improve test observability. Coach and mentor – guide engineers and squads on automation best practice and support continuous improvement in testing maturity. Broaden quality scope – contribute to non‑functional testing (performance, accessibility, security) and Tier 3 production troubleshooting when required. Continuously improve – stay abreast of emerging test automation tools, frameworks, and best practices to evolve our quality approach. Who We’re Looking For A quality advocate and collaborative professional who champions best practices, shift‑left testing, and continuous improvement. Someone who thrives in agile, cross‑functional teams and is skilled in combining analytical thinking and creativity to solve complex testing challenges. 5+ years in QA automation, with strong hands‑on experience in modern languages. Bonus points for C#, TypeScript & Dart (Flutter). Proven experience building automation frameworks from scratch and maintaining large test suites. Deep understanding of trade‑offs involved in testing methods selection, test data management, and continuous testing principles. Solid experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (e.g. GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Docker, or Kubernetes). Familiarity with BDD tools (Cucumber, Gherkin, Screenplay Patterns) and working in agile squads. Strong analytical mindset, debugging skills, and a focus on delivering maintainable, high‑quality code. Bonus points for: experience with contract testing, performance or security testing exposure, or work in high‑availability, SaaS, or finance systems. Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience. Stays curious, understands their domain, and keeps their technical knowledge current.
