Job Type: Permanent position | Full time position Job Description DARWIN SHIP REPAIR PTY LTD (DSR) is a member of the Paspaley Pearls Group. With six dry repair berths and three wet berths, the DSR shipyard is Darwin’s leading provider in all facets of ship repair, engineering, and maintenance. DSR is seeking a spray painter/sandblaster to join our team. This hands‑on role involves surface preparation, abrasive blasting, coating application, and final preparation of components. Remuneration: $77,000 – $95,000 per year Full Time Employment Key Responsibilities Cleaning, sanding, and grinding surfaces to ensure they are free of dirt, rust, and old paint. Masking areas that should not be painted. Loading spray equipment with paints, lacquers, primers, and other industrial coatings. Adjusting spray guns for the correct pressure and nozzle settings. Removing rust, old paint, scale, and other imperfections to prepare surfaces for painting or other finishes. Shovelling abrasives into the machine hopper, adjusting air pressure and abrasive mixture, and manually directing the blast nozzle or manipulating parts in a cabinet. Applying coatings evenly and consistently to manufactured items like machinery, parts, or metal structures using spray guns. Monitoring drying fans, heaters, and paint booths. Moving finished items to drying areas and stacking them. Cleaning spray guns, hoses, and containers after use to ensure they are in good working order. Identifying and touching up any defective areas to ensure the final product meets quality standards. Sanding surfaces between coats as needed. Qualifications Construction White Card. Drivers License. Experience & Skills Hold a relevant qualification equivalent to an AQF Certificate II or higher. At least one year’s relevant full‑time work experience. Attention to detail. Knowledge of different types of paints, coatings, solvents, and their application. Experience in surface preparation techniques, including sanding and masking. Strong hand‑eye coordination; familiarity with safety guidelines and the ability to wear appropriate protective gear. Physical ability to lift and carry equipment.
