I am writing to thank Professor Woldring for his very interesting article about the Australian Constitution. I know nothing about such matters, but to hear how out-of-date it is, is disturbing. And yet it suggests vast potential for reform and improvement.I thought, for example, how interesting was the information that Cabinet ministers don’t necessarily have to be MPs. How illuminating.Perhaps the whole business is like those jobs we all have around the place, like cleaning the windows, that we know need doing but it always ends up at the bottom of the list because the bathroom really needs to be done first, and after that, we’ve run out of energyPerhaps there needs to be established a working group charged with just the job of constitutional reform, and at each time just a particular aspect, e.g. the position of women and issues of equality between the sexes, and be given a set period of time to sort it.
