The Infrastructure Operations (Data Center) team supports the rapidly growing AWS business and customers 24/7. We are committed to maintaining the physical infrastructure of AWS, upholding standards for safety, security, availability, productivity, capacity, efficiency, and cost. The Data Center Engineering Operations Trainee will handle Data Center Engineering Operations, including risk management, corrective and preventative maintenance of critical infrastructure, vendor management, and metric reporting. We seek individuals with little to no experience, driven and technically inclined (electrical/mechanical), with a passion to learn data center engineering operations. Reporting to the DCEO Manager, responsibilities include sustaining availability, managing costs, assessing and mitigating risks, reviewing maintenance activities, and reporting metrics. You will collaborate with software, hardware, network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and others. Your role will contribute to delivering high safety and security standards while providing extensive capacity at minimal cost, within an inclusive culture that fosters innovative ideas. This is a 6-month fixed-term position with potential for full-time conversion. Key job responsibilities Responsibilities may include: Assisting with the management of contractors, sub-contractors, and vendors, ensuring compliance with procedures and legislation. Maintaining performance benchmarks, analyzing data, and preparing reports on infrastructure operations and maintenance. Generating Change Management requests and Incident Management tickets as directed. Contributing to documentation related to business and facility operations. Supporting rack installation and power/cooling provisioning within constraints. Participating in routine maintenance and emergency services on critical systems such as switchgear, generators, UPS, power distribution, chillers, cooling towers, air handlers, and monitoring systems. Learning about the design, implementation, commissioning, and build-out of new facilities. Assisting with facility asset management and inventory control. Participating in construction and operational meetings as needed. Supporting Work Order compliance and reviewing contractual SLAs. Interfacing with Infra Ops teams for daily operational needs. Assisting in resolving infrastructure engineering or service issues. Delivering exceptional customer service. Meeting operational hours, shift, and on-call requirements during rotations. Preferred qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a relevant discipline, or relevant technical experience (military, trade school, TAFE).
