Senior Project Manager - Aboriginal Youth Justice About This Role Great opportunity to join Youth Justice on a fixed-term basis in Melbourne. Lead the delivery of key strategic projects in partnership with key Aboriginal community stakeholders including Cultural Support Plans review and redesign. Contribute to improving the outcomes of young people's futures. The Department of Justice and Community Safety is responsible for the statutory supervision of young people in the criminal justice system across both custody and community. Youth Justice Custodial Centres accommodate young people aged 10-18 years who have been remanded or sentenced by the Criminal Division of the Children's Court, and some 18–21-year old’s sentenced by Adult Courts to a Youth Justice Custodial Centre. The Aboriginal Youth Justice unit at the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) is responsible for the design and development of policy, strategy and program responses for young Aboriginal people in contact with, or at risk of contact with the Youth Justice system. Opportunity Fixed term, full-time position until 30 June 2027 based in Melbourne. VPS Grade 6 role: $138,631 - $185,518 per year plus superannuation. Lead the implementation of priority projects under Wirkara Kulpa, including the review and redesign of Cultural Support Plans, ensuring high quality project planning, stakeholder engagement, change management, reporting and any other relevant activity. Build strong, collaborative and culturally responsive relationships with the Aboriginal Justice Caucus and Aboriginal community organisations, balancing diverse priorities and supporting shared outcomes. Anticipate and respond to emerging issues, opportunities and risks, using insight and innovation to develop practical solutions that keep projects on track and achieve meaningful results. Produce high-quality briefs, reports and project documentation, providing clear advice, options and recommendations to support informed decision-making by senior leaders. To be successful in this role you will have a: Excellent knowledge of Aboriginal culture and society and understanding of historical and contemporary issues relating to Aboriginal Victorians. Strong knowledge of, and demonstrated experience, working with Aboriginal communities and advisory groups, including sophisticated and culturally aware stakeholder engagement. Demonstrated strong project management experience relevant to the deliverables of this role, having successfully managed similar projects using a high collaborative approach. Demonstrated experience and working knowledge of government legislation, priorities and directions, including a strong understanding of the youth justice system and funded sector. A tertiary qualification in criminology, social sciences, or a related field is essential. You will be required to obtain a Working with Children Check, which you will need to maintain for the period of employment. What’s in it for you?
