Go back Cambridge University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Deputy Team lead Dep of Medicine for the Elderly (DME) Physiotherapist The closing date is 25 January 2026 An exciting opportunity has arisen within our DME service for a Band 6 Senior Physiotherapist. We are seeking a dynamic and innovative individual to join the team. You will work within a large, friendly and dedicated Physiotherapy team. There will be significant opportunities to provide and develop your leadership, supervision and mentorship skills. You should demonstrate a commitment to promoting clinical excellence and evidence-based practice. Your responsibilities would include : Providing a high standard physiotherapy service to patients on the Department of Medicine for the Elderly wards; Furthering the development of skills in caseload prioritisation, service audits and staff management and the deputisation for the Band 7 Team Lead whilst carrying a complex patient caseload. You will be working collaboratively with the DME service, and the multidisciplinary team to deliver a quality clinical service with a clear focus on service development and service improvement. You will be required to partake in our weekend and on-call service. Main duties of the job To perform advanced physiotherapeutic assessment of frail elderly patients with diverse medical, respiratory, neurological and musculoskeletal presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions, to provide a diagnosis and develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme. To hold responsibility for own caseload and be responsible for a defined area of the service or a particular patient type, working unsupervised. Access to advice and support from senior physiotherapists is available if required. To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner. To supervise, educate and assess the performance of physiotherapy students. This would be to a graduate standard and involve working with universities to ensure the standard of practice and teaching meets the standards set by the degree level qualification. To undertake evidence-based practice, audit and research projects to further own and team's clinical practice. Make recommendations to clinical lead for changes to practice by the team. May lead implementation of specific changes to practice or contribute to service protocols. To maintain specialist respiratory physiotherapy competency in order to participate in the out of hour's respiratory physiotherapy service. Person Specification Qualifications Diploma / Degree in Physiotherapy (or equivalent) State Registration Evidence of relevant postgraduate level education/CPD Membership professional body e.g. The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy or professional network Experience Experience as a band 6 in a broad range of specialities including respiratory, elderly care, neurological and musculoskeletal conditions Experience of working as part of a physiotherapy team and/or MDT Contributing to clinical education of less experienced staff or assistants Band 6 NHS experience Experience in supervising students Experience in supervising others e.g. juniors and assistants Experience of working in a community setting Experience in conducting formal presentations Knowledge Good knowledge of Care of the Older Person, General Medicine, Respiratory, Neurological and Musculoskeletal conditions Knowledge of workings of community and primary care Skills Excellent interpersonal skills Committed to personal and team development Ability to work independently & manage own caseload Ability to pass on skills / knowledge to others within both formal and informal environments Administrative and computer skills Evidence of participation in research / audit Presentation Skills Additional Requirements The ability to understand and behave at all times, towards patients, visitors and colleagues according to the Trust values of Safe, Kind, Excellent.
