Pet Academy Trainer

Pet Academy Trainer - Rockhampton Petbarn, Australasia’s leading pet specialty retailer, has over 150 locations throughout Australia and New Zealand. We are looking for an extremely friendly Dog Trainer to work on a casual/part‑time basis in our Rockhampton store. The role will also require some retail sales assistant work as required from time to time. Responsibilities Deliver dog training classes and one‑on‑one sessions using positive reinforcement techniques. Deliver the dog training content as provided to remain within our animal welfare and ethics guidelines. Participate in regular paid training sessions with senior trainers to refresh and improve skills. Handle dogs of all sizes and restrain dogs up to and including large breeds as required. Work on weekends and be flexible regarding working days and hours. Assist with species other than dogs (e.g., cat and aquatic classes) as the role evolves. Lifts heavy items up to 20 kg (e.g., bags of dog food). Provide retail support and complete initial onboarding with retail training, store procedures and in‑depth training of Pet Academy classes and operations. Work unsupervised and meet high standards of performance and customer service. Qualifications Passion for animal behaviour and training. Positive reinforcement‑based training experience or relevant qualifications. Commitment to the care of pets. Public speaking and presentation experience. High integrity, motivation and proactivity. Composure under stress and pressure. Excellent communication skills at all levels. Retail experience in a high‑volume, disciplined environment preferred. Strong customer service orientation. Ability to work within a team. Animal studies qualifications highly regarded. Commitment to ongoing learning and improvement in science‑based animal training.
