Base pay range A$110,534.00/yr - A$119,249.00/yr About the role As the Team Leader of Planning Services at Yarra Ranges Council, you will lead a dedicated team of planning officers in delivering high‑quality statutory planning services that align with Council policy, the Yarra Ranges Planning Scheme, the Regional Strategy Plan, and legislative requirements. Reporting to the Executive Officer – Planning Services, you’ll manage a portfolio of permit applications and statutory approvals, provide expert specialist planning advice, and mentor staff to build a high‑performing, customer‑focused team. You’ll play a key role in enhancing how we engage with our community, through service delivery, digital platforms, and communication strategies. This is a dynamic leadership opportunity to drive process improvements, foster cross‑functional collaboration, and model Council’s values while shaping the future of planning in the Yarra Ranges. This role has 5–8 direct reports and is a full‑time permanent position (38 hours per week). It is a Band 7 role with a salary range rate between A$110,534 and A$119,249 per annum, plus superannuation. Experience and skills we’re looking for Experience in delegating decision‑making authority and task responsibility for improving systems and processes. The ability to build a cohesive, high‑performing work group by clarifying accountabilities, involving the group in decisions, and providing resources. Encourage the implementation and acceptance of new, customer‑focused processes, activities, or culture. Proven ability to manage complex planning applications with multiple stakeholders and deliver outcome‑focused solutions. Diploma or degree in Planning or a related field. Similar qualifications will also be considered. The ability to lead a small planning team, providing daily supervision and technical guidance across statutory services. Advocacy skills to appear before the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal and/or a Planning Panel. Great organisational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate confidently with diverse customers.
