Gas Installation Compliance Manager

About the opportunity We have an exciting permanent, full-time opportunity for a Gas Installation Compliance Manager responsible for the day‑to‑day leadership of the Gas Installation Compliance team within Energy Safe Victoria. Base salary is $154,039 – $168,680 plus super. Flexible hybrid working arrangements are available. Our purpose is to keep Victorians energy safe and ensure energy is used confidently. You will contribute by : Contribute to the overall leadership and strategy implementation of the department through close cooperation with the Head of Gas Installation and Equipment Safety and peers. Provide technical leadership, support and management of staff including selection, retention, performance management and development of high performing staff. Oversee and audit team inspection deliverables from carrying out assessments, inspections, and acceptance of complex and Type B appliance installations in line with respective legislation and Energy Safe requirements. Provide professional advice to industry, management, and the public on gas installation safety matters, including changes to regulations, standards, codes, and practices. Respond to complex complaints from the trade and the public in relation to potential breaches of the Act, pursuant regulations, standards, and unsafe gas practices and investigations where appropriate. Write and review briefs of evidence and work closely with the legal and procurement department to prepare for and assist in prosecutions including laying charges and attending court as an expert witness. Act as an ‘Inspector' for the purpose of serving Orders and Notices as required under the Gas Safety Act 1997. Assess, inspect and accept for compliance and safety in line with legislation and Energy Safe requirements in relations to complex gas installations and Type B gas appliances. Monitor and undertake audits and inspections of complex gas installations and Type B appliances to ensure compliance with regulations and standards. Carry out legal and technical enquiries into serious gas and gas installation incidents or events where there are potential breaches of the Act, pursuant regulations, standards, or implications for gas safety. Represent Energy Safe and provide evidence at courts, tribunals and disciplinary hearings including the magistrates' court, VCAT and the Coroner's Court, if required. Provide subject matter expertise to support the provision of educational and guidance materials for internal and external stakeholders. Contribute to updating codes, regulations, standards, and technical information data sheets. Participate in the Energy Safe's availability roster and carry out availability duties as required. To be successful, you'll have : Current gasfitting registration with type B gasfitting accreditation desirable, along with extensive technical experience with gas installations and gas appliances. Significant technical regulatory experience relevant to the role. Specifically in gas. Practical knowledge of the principles of electricity and in the installation, commissioning and maintenance of Type B gas appliances and complex gas installations. Ability to assess complex formulae and designs through calculations and research. Sound knowledge and ability to interpret the relevant Australian standards and Victorian legislation to assess the design and installation of Type B gas appliances and complex gas installations. Strong culture building skills including the ability to build high performing teams through coaching and performance development. High level communication skills, ability to prepare management reports, present to industry, negotiate, and resolve conflict. Well-developed interpersonal skills and ability to manage effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders. High level analytical and problem-solving skills, with proven ability to read and comprehend ladder logic diagrams. Demonstrated experience in working in a sensitive environment dealing with multiple complex stakeholders.
