Radiological Control Health Physicist (ALSA) An exciting career awaits you at ASC, Australia's submarine company – the sustainer of Australia's conventionally armed, nuclear‑powered submarines in the AUKUS partnership. To deliver on this new and exciting work, we are seeking qualified Health Physicists to be at the forefront of ASC’s radiation protection and safety program. Placements are available in February 2026 and will be 18 months in duration and will be based at ANSTO in NSW. This is a Permanent Full‑Time position where training is conducted in Sydney, NSW. Incumbents will be required to relocate to Perth, WA upon completion of training. ANSTO is the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation and functions as a national centre of excellence, conducting research, advising the government, and producing nuclear medicines. ANSTO is the home of Australia's most significant landmark and national infrastructure for research. Responsibilities In the role of a Health Physicist, you will support the radiological controls program as part of the Australian Licenced Support Activity (ALSA) division of Submarine Rotational Force – West (SRF‑W) in Garden Island. You will act as an advocate for building a nuclear and radiation safety culture by supporting training, education and awareness activities. The responsibility of the role includes: Perform and assist in radiation safety assessments, nuclear safety assessments, and risk assessments Perform optimisation studies and identify improvements for new and existing processes Management of personnel dosimetry programs and supporting radiological environmental testing and decontamination Provide directions for radiation safety techniques and controls when radioactive material is being handled Preparation of technical reports relating to projects, practices, license conditions, dosimetry and emergency situations Develop knowledge of the standards and regulations related to radiation protection principles Eligibility Criteria Ability to relocate to Sydney, NSW for 18 months and then to Perth WA permanently Bachelor’s degree in related science, physics and mathematics Ability to understand and follow Australian nuclear and radiation legislative and regulatory requirements Strong communication skills and ability to build and maintain relationships with a variety of stakeholders Benefits Be paid to train in NSW for 18 months, returning to WA in a permanent position Unique and challenging work with a deeper purpose Up to 10 days additional leave every year so you can rest and recharge Generous parental leave so you can give your family the focus it deserves Health and wellbeing initiatives so you can perform at your best at work Professional development opportunities to advance your career Discounts and exclusive offers from leading Australian brands to help you save Next Steps Shortlisted applicants will be contacted to organise a phone call for a further discussion to the opportunity.
