Environmental Specialist

Amentum, located in Alice Springs, Northern Territory, Australia, is hiring for an Environmental Specialist. The role requires oversight and coordination of all aspects of the environmental program to ensure compliance with safety, health, environmental regulations (US and Australian) and company policy. Environment & Facility The position supports a multi‑disciplined facility southwest of Alice Springs and additional infrastructure in the Alice Springs township. The facility is self‑sufficient, generating its own power, water supply, treatment, storage and distribution, general waste and hazardous waste generation, chemical use, maintenance activities, warehousing and transportation services, dining facilities, health and fitness facilities including a medical clinic and gym. Essential Responsibilities Develop and maintain workplace procedures, processes and permits related to environmental compliance and safety, including water testing and monitoring, flora and fauna management, spill prevention and response, and hazardous and general waste management. Conduct environmental sampling including industrial, potable, bore, pool and wastewater. Deliver toolbox talks and internal training on environmental and safety topics to mitigate risks and inform safe working practices. Maintain register of environmentally controlled spaces and managed areas and provide technical advice on compliant land management practices. Organise and facilitate external vendors and partnerships with NATA accredited testing labs. Review construction environmental management plans and assist Project Managers with obtaining necessary permits and certificates for new construction works. Ensure compliance with all site environmental health and safety requirements. Conduct investigations into workplace incidents and document findings and corrective actions. Perform any other reasonable duties as requested. Qualifications Minimum: Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, or a related field. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite. Desirable: Bachelor’s degree in environmental science. Tickets and Licences Minimum: Driver’s License. Desirable: Construction Induction (White Card). Working at Heights certification. Experience 3–5 years work experience in the environmental science field. Competencies Basic knowledge of computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and data entry. High level of communication – written and verbal, teamwork and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and in collaboration with a group. Planning and organisational skills. Work Environment and Physical Demands Ability to lift up to 20 kg independently. Approximately equal time office work and standing/moving field‑work. Field‑work includes industrial spaces such as power plants and exterior areas in a high‑heat location. Constant use of vision and mental alertness required. Security Clearance Employees must obtain and retain the appropriate level of security clearance and medical clearance applicable to the role. The position requires a NV1 Department of Defence Security Clearance (Australian) or a TS/SCI (U.S.) clearance with Poly. Statement of Work Requirements At least 18 years of age. Able to fluently read, write and speak English. EHS Requirement Complete work tasks in a safe manner. Report any unsafe acts or conditions to supervisor and/or PMO/EHS Manager. Adhere continuously to environmental, health and safety procedures outlined in the JDFPG Handbook. Use Red‑Carding to stop work if a job is unsafe or poses a danger to the environment.
