Lead Technical Architect

Senior Consultant – Talent Acquisition (Lead Technology Architect – EL2) Client: Department of Home Affairs Location: Canberra, Australian Capital Territory Contract length: 5 months with potential extensions of 24 months (two 12‑month extensions) Security clearance: Baseline security clearance required. Job Description: Technology architects determine the appropriate technologies to be used in the service development and delivery environment. They monitor emerging technologies and plan technology exploration, implementation and retirement. Key Duties and Responsibilities Define, develop and lead the vision, strategy, target state, roadmap and decision support for one or more infrastructure capabilities (Facilities, Storage, Compute, Network, enabling Platforms). Provide high‑quality advice to senior stakeholders and contribute to wider strategic planning, ensuring alignment with best practices, cost optimisation and business goals. Engage with subject‑matter experts to support organisational outcomes. Design, develop and/or lead appropriate architectural artefacts. Extend technology architecture frameworks and governance processes. Provide design assurance, fit‑for‑purpose integration and ensure adherence with architectural strategy, principles and practices. Transfer skills and knowledge to departmental staff, ensuring documentation is stored in accordance with the Department’s record‑keeping policy. Produce design reviews, project architecture artefacts (solution outlines, system and security architecture documentation), architectural end states, solution outlines, architectural decisions, reference architectures. Technical Skills Extensive architecture experience across one or more technology domains: data centres, infrastructure platforms, networking, surveillance, communication systems, storage, collaboration platforms, contact centre solutions, end‑user computing design. Ability to create ICT architecture designs, patterns, blueprints, roadmaps and solution designs. About the Team The Architecture, Design and Security (ADS) Branch is located within the Strategy, Digital and Data Division and is responsible for setting the strategic architecture direction for the Department, enabling alignment between long‑term strategies, feasibility and business needs. The ADS Branch works closely with business units and stakeholders to provide guidance and support architecture design, delivery, governance and sustainment decisions. The Technology and Security Architecture section defines and guides the Department’s core technology and security foundations, sets architecture strategies, roadmaps and design direction, and ensures technology is secure and aligned with business outcomes. About the Organisation Provide advisory services on infrastructure and technology solutions. Develop, maintain and promote platform architecture and technology roadmaps. Assess suitability of new technologies, innovations and approaches for possible adoption. Liaise with vendors regarding technologies. Manage requests for services provided by the enterprise architecture practice. Assist operational teams with problem management investigations and resolution. Lead emerging technology monitoring, including planning and evaluating impacts, threats and opportunities. Manage the innovation pipeline and execute innovation processes. Contribute to the development of solution architectures across business, infrastructure or functional areas. Provide definitive and expert advice in specialist areas. Design large or complex systems and undertake impact analysis on major design options. Manage consultancy services and/or a team of consultants. Develop models and plans to drive the execution of business strategy. Produce network design policies, principles and criteria covering connectivity, capacity, interfacing, security, resilience, recovery and access.
