Overview Ascham is an independent girls’ school, and since its foundation in 1886 has educated girls who develop into confident, independent and compassionate young women with a sense of purpose in the world. As an inclusive, day and boarding school Ascham provides a strong academic program within a warm environment. The Head Debating Coach is responsible for ensuring that Ascham Debating coaches are suitably employed, trained and informed of their programs and schedules. The position holder also supports the Debating Coordinator in the development and running of the Ascham Debating Program for students in years 4 to 12. Commencing ASAP, this is a casual position of some 10-18 hours per week during Terms 1 and 2, and a smaller commitment during Terms 3 and 4. What You Will Do Prepare and rollout the Ascham Debating training curriculum Develop age-appropriate debating resources and feedback to students in years 4 to 12 Plan and conduct regular debate training sessions (Fridays in Terms 1-3, and Tuesdays before competition rounds) Organise logistics for, and accompany debaters to competitions; while overseeing their participation Work with girls to develop debate strategies and refine their arguments for specific competitions Evaluate team performance, provide constructive feedback and strategise for improvement Recruit, train and mentor Ascham Debating Coaches Coordinate team meetings; and foster team communication, cohesion and morale Maintain debate team records and documentation. What You Bring A demonstrated passion for debating, and history of participating in competitions The ability to stay informed about current events and relevant debate topics Skills and experience in Debating or adjudicating coaching for primary and secondary school debaters A working knowledge of the Independent Schools Debating Association (ISDA), Independent Girls’ Schools Association (IGSA), Independent Primary School Heads of Australia (IPSHA), Archdale Debating, and State Debating competitions Proven experience in coaching / leading and collaborating with others Confidence, self-sufficiency, and the ability to hold your ground Excellent written and verbal communication skills Proven organisation, administration and time management skills Punctuality, professionalism and high levels of work reliability A firm commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children A current First Aid / CPR Certificate and valid Working with Children Clearance (WWCC).
