Warrnambool and District Community Hospice – Warrnambool VIC The role of a volunteer with Warrnambool and District Community Hospice is varied, gratifying and a great way to develop new and rewarding relationships in the region. As an end-of-life volunteer in our 'Hospice in the Home' program you can make a difference to the life of people who wish to die at home, their family and carers. The role may be as simple as providing a cup of tea or washing some dishes, or giving carers some much needed 'me' time whilst providing compassionate and sensitive emotional support to their dying loved one. Most importantly, this volunteer role is one designed to support people with a life-limiting illness to stay at home longer and ease the burden on carers. HOSPICE IN THE HOME SERVICES Practical assistance to the person wishing to die at home Practical assistance to the family and carers Providing the family or carers with the opportunity to take a break KEY DUTIES Comply with volunteer policies and procedures of Warrnambool & District Community Hospice Provide helpful tasks within the boundaries of the volunteer Communicate any concerns about the client, family or carer to the Hospice Support Coordinator Identify any additional client needs and notify the Hospice Support Coordinator Complete required 'Hospice in the Home' documentation Maintain your record of volunteer activity Participate in monthly volunteer team meetings Participate in debriefing sessions as needed Participate in ongoing education activities relevant to the role QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS A commitment to caring for people who wish to die in the comfort of their own home with their families and carers A current Victorian drivers licence and motor vehicle covered by comprehensive insurance for transport related activities A current Working with Children Check A willingness to undergo a Criminal History check Excellent communication and interpersonal skills An ability to maintain confidentiality Flexibility, reliability, punctuality and responsibility A willingness to work as part of a team and accept direction from the Hospice Support Coordinator The ability to work under limited supervision The ability to exercise discretion and judgement and work in sensitive situations If yes, then we would love to hear from you. A commitment to regular volunteering is desirable. We ask volunteers to be available to volunteer around 2 - 4 hours a week. Training : Volunteers will undergo a recognised Palliative Care Victoria training course, as well as hands‑on instruction relevant to end‑of‑life care. Training will be face‑to‑face and held over eight evening sessions and one afternoon session in Warrnambool.
