Infrastructure Engineer

SKL Technology is currently searching for a motivated Infrastructure Engineer to join our growing client within their ICT Services Division. The role involves delivering senior-level infrastructure engineering services within a high-assurance operational environment, working closely with internal stakeholders and under established security and operational frameworks. You will provide hands-on technical leadership across Linux-first infrastructure, automation, virtualisation, networking, and secure operations, while contributing to the design, deployment, and support of critical systems and data flows. The role also places a strong emphasis on automation-first practices, Infrastructure-as-Code, and knowledge transfer to internal teams.

Type: Contract Length: initial 12 months (with possible 12 months further extension) Citizenship: AUSTRALIAN CITIZENSHIP IS ESSENTIAL Key Responsibilities Provide senior Infrastructure Engineer / Systems Administrator services across secure, segmented environments. Deliver technical leadership and mentoring, promoting automation-first practices and secure operations. Design, deploy, configure, and support infrastructure across the full stack, including physical, virtual, network, and storage layers. Build and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code using Ansible and Git/GitLab, including CI/CD pipelines for controlled and auditable change.

Provide technical direction and oversight to vendors delivering professional services, ensuring alignment with security and operational constraints. Support reliable data flows and system integration between discrete operational environments and enterprise platforms. Work effectively within a small, multidisciplinary team operating in a high-assurance environment. Produce and maintain clear technical documentation, diagrams, procedures, and automation artefacts to support knowledge transfer.

Ensure systems, documentation, and records Proven experience designing, configuring, and supporting Linux-first (Ubuntu) infrastructure in enterprise or secure environments. Strong hands-on experience administering Linux systems, including hardening, patching, optimisation, troubleshooting, and security controls.

Experience

configuring and maintaining Microsoft Windows Server services (e.g. Active Directory, ADFS, certificate services). Hands-on expertise with automation and Infrastructure-as-Code, including Ansible and Git/GitLab workflows (CI/CD, version control, code reviews). Strong experience with VMware vSphere / ESXi, including lifecycle management, performance optimisation, and operational support.

Demonstrated networking experience with enterprise firewalls and switches, including segmentation, secure connectivity, and policy configuration. Ability to design and deliver complex infrastructure solutions while addressing security, testing, operational, and lifecycle considerations. Strong scripting capability in Bash and PowerShell. Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in secure, multidisciplinary teams.

Expert-level Linux administration (Ubuntu/RHEL), including development of Linux SOE standards and centralised management tooling.

Experience

with containers and basic orchestration platforms (Docker/Podman, Kubernetes or similar).

Experience

with security tooling such as vulnerability scanning, endpoint hardening, firewall policy management, and SIEM/log integration.

Experience

designing, monitoring, and alerting solutions for segmented or restricted environments. Exposure to data ingest pipelines and throughput optimisation for reliable delivery and integrity validation.

Experience

working within regulated or national-security-aligned environments, including formal security assessments and change management processes. #J-18808-Ljbffr
