Overview Special Education Assistant/ISE‑203 at Cedar Park Elementary is a 1.0 FTE 1‑1 role that supports the supervision, care, and instruction of special‑needs students in regular classrooms or self‑contained settings. The assistant implements instructional plans, monitors behavior, provides data to school personnel, and attends IEP meetings. The position is part of the SPP Plus service pathway. Responsibilities Adapt classroom activities, assignments, and materials to meet the instructional needs of all special‑education students. Administer tests, homework, grades, and folders to assist the teacher in evaluating student progress and organizing individual student needs. Administer first aid and medical assistance as required to provide appropriate care for injured children. Assist students requiring support in addressing personal care needs due to medical condition or physical limitations. Attend meetings, in‑service presentations, and training (e.g., CPR, emergency procedures). Confere regularly with special‑education and mainstream teachers to evaluate student progress and implement IEP objectives. Communicate with teachers and parents (phone calls, e‑mail) to provide information related to the student’s progress. Direct and implement behavioral plans for students with behavior disorders to assist in meeting student needs and ensuring safety. Instruct students in individual and group settings (academic subjects, social skills, daily living skills) to reinforce instructional objectives and implement remediation plans. Maintain instructional materials and student files/records to ensure availability and reliability of information. Monitor students during assigned periods within various school environments (rest rooms, playgrounds, hallways, bus loading zones, cafeteria, parking lots) to aid students and maintain a safe and positive learning environment. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent and at least one of the following: associate degree or higher; 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100‑level or higher; or completion of an apprenticeship as a paraeducator registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council. Valid State of Washington Driver’s License or evidence of equivalent mobility. Current CPR and First Aid certification. Ability to work under direct supervision using standardized procedures and to collaborate with other staff to coordinate instruction and behavior support. Experience and Preference Experience working with children and supporting students with behavior disorders is preferred. Clearances and Benefits Criminal Justice Fingerprint Background Clearance is required.
