ABOUT THE ROLE Outback Spirit is seeking an experienced, highly skilled, and passionate Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our team in Albury. This position is pivotal in upholding the highest safety and service standards while providing servicing and maintenance for our premium Outback Spirit touring and fleet vehicles. The role will report directly to the Service Manager. The successful candidate will take pride in their commitment to safety and service excellence, with extensive knowledge and experience in service and maintenance requirements. Key Responsibilities Conduct regular servicing of our fleet, ensuring all vehicles are well‑maintained. Perform maintenance on both heavy and light vehicles to guarantee optimal performance. Execute thorough mechanical diagnostics to identify and resolve issues efficiently. Provide exceptional on‑field service, maintaining clear communication with Tour Drivers during breakdown situations via phone support, as well as undertaking on‑road call‑outs when required. Perform stock takes and order necessary parts to ensure timely repairs. Ensure safe and efficient operations within the workshop environment. Accurately enter and maintain fleet records in our database. Be prepared to travel at short notice as needed for service requirements. ABOUT YOU To excel in this position, you must have proven experience as a mechanic, characterised by strong attention to detail, excellent troubleshooting abilities, and exceptional communication skills. The ideal candidate will possess A Mechanical Trade Qualification. A minimum of 5 years' experience as a Diesel Mechanic. Previous experience in troubleshooting and performing diagnostics over the phone. A Heavy Vehicle Road Transport Repairer's trade qualification (advantageous). An Air Conditioning Repair licence and knowledge of electronics (advantageous). A current Medium Rigid (MR) driver’s licence as a minimum. A strong focus on safety and understanding of best practices. Excellent mechanical knowledge. A high level of integrity and the ability to work autonomously. Experience with Mercedes Benz heavy vehicles (advantageous). Flexibility to work some weekends and public holidays during the tour season (April to November), with the commitment to keep such instances to a minimum where possible.
