Reports To Team Leader, Family Safety & Wellbeing Effective Date January 2025 Overview of Program The Family Safety Program is a client-centred, trauma informed service designed to provide counselling and support to families experiencing relationship difficulties. The team provides specialist family violence services to men, women and children who have or are currently experiencing family violence Position Objective The Family Safety Advocate (FSA) supports Affected Family Members (AFMs)—partners, ex-partners, and family members of adults using family violence in Family Life programs. The role involves assessing risk, developing safety plans, and maintaining communication throughout the adult’s engagement with services to ensure AFM safety.The Family Safety Advocate also provides referrals to counselling and other appropriate services to address the impact of family violence. Key Responsibilities Working with Affected Family Members to enhance safety, provide support, and connect them with appropriate internal and external services. Conducting phone MARAM risk assessments and developing safety plans with Affected Family Members. Communicating and collaborating with the Family Safety Leadership Team and program facilitators to share risk information, respond to escalations, and implement strategies to mitigate risk and promote safety. Prioritising the needs and safety of AFMs, including children, and ensuring their needs are central to all decisions. Delivering services to quality standards, aligned with evidence-based practice and relevant legislation. Maintaining accurate documentation and administrative systems in line with agency and legislative requirements. Attending reflective practice groups and team meetings. Co-facilitation of therapeutic support groups specific to women, children or adolescents who have experienced family violence. Key Selection Criteria Tertiary qualification (minimum Bachelor’s degree) in Social Work, Counselling or Psychology. Demonstrated ability in undertaking MARAM assessments. Strong understanding of family violence complexities. Skills and experience working with people who have experienced family violence. Skills in managing challenging behaviours and understanding trauma and attachment impacts on children. Demonstrated experience with separation, family law, mental health, sexual abuse, alcohol and other drugs. Demonstrated experience working with multidisciplinary teams to provide a high level of performance and innovation. Information technology skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, client management systems and online video conferencing platforms.
