Tenure Fixed Term Full-time (2 years) Applications Close 15 December, 2025 Purpose of the Position The Language Centre Project Officer (Immersion) is a new position in the Centre for Australian Languages and Linguistics (CALL) team. It will lead the development of a Language Immersion Program in Central Australian languages, researching methods such as ‘Fluency Transfer’ and ‘Comprehensible Input’ to create a comprehensive, sequenced curriculum aimed at helping new learners and those with passive language knowledge become proficient speakers of their endangered Indigenous language. The role includes building evaluation, monitoring and data collection processes, creating a reference group, and supporting the program’s objectives to align with Target 16 of Closing the Gap and the International Decade of Indigenous Languages priorities. Duties Create a reference group to support the program and its objectives. Support the writing of grant funding applications for the immersion program. Lead the development of a curriculum, starting with beginners’ level and progressing to advanced levels, including workbooks and audio recordings with fluent speakers. Develop an assessment tool to guide learners’ understanding of their learning. Create and implement continual improvement processes to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the immersion program, including a system to measure impact. Develop delivery models that align with the needs and priorities of the Central Australian community. Advocate on behalf of the program to raise community awareness, secure necessary funds, and celebrate successes. Develop relationships with other groups and organisations developing fluency transfer models to share resources and best practice. Undertake other reasonable duties as directed by the line manager. Selection Criteria – Essential This position requires an Indigenous person fluent in a Central Australian Indigenous language. Demonstrated initiative, reliability, and ability to manage workload priorities, with project management skills. Demonstrated ability to monitor and evaluate projects. Proficiency with computer-based applications such as MS Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, and project/record management systems. Ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Experience working effectively in culturally diverse teams within Indigenous Australian communities and organisations. Understanding of Work Health and Safety principles and practices, and ability to comply with Institute WHS Policies and Procedures. Selection Criteria – Desirable Experience in using government financial systems (Expense 8, GAS). Interest in Central Australian Aboriginal Languages. #J-18808-Ljbffr
