Privacy and Information Governance Officer Catholic Education in Western Australia (CEWA) is the second largest education provider in the State. We cater for more than 76,000 students in 162 schools. The Role The role of Privacy and Governance Officer belongs to the Digital Technology team in the Finance, Infrastructure and Digital Technology directorate. We have 5 office campuses across the state and this role will be based at our West Leederville office. This is a full-time, ongoing position commencing 2 February 2026. As a Privacy and Governance Officer at CEWA, you will be at the forefront of ensuring that our technology and processes adhere to our high standards and regulatory requirements. Working with CEWA's Privacy and Information Governance Advisor, your role will be multifaceted, involving privacy and AI assessments, administrative support, and governance oversight. You will be instrumental in reviewing applications to ensure they meet the CEWA Approved Technology Assessment criteria, which is essential for maintaining the privacy, integrity and security of our platforms while ultimately supporting our mission to provide exceptional education and support to our students and staff. In addition to your assessment duties, you will provide vital administration and governance support for key committees, including the Change Advisory Board, Architecture Review Board, and Enterprise Architecture Group. These committees play a crucial role in guiding the strategic direction of our technology initiatives, and your support will ensure their smooth operation and effective decision making. This primary accountabilities for this role include: Reviewing applications against the CEWA Approved Technology Assessment criteria. This work will be shared nationally with other Catholic Education Diocese in a collaborative environment. Assisting with the ‘Request for Approved Technology Ticket' triage and gathering input from relevant stakeholders such as Teaching and Learning, Child Safe, Legal and more. Support CEWA's Privacy and Information Governance Frameworks, ensuring alignment with the Information Stewardship Executive Directive and evolving legislative requirements. Support and complete Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) and AI Impact Assessments (AIIAs) alongside the Privacy and Information Governance Advisor. Support and monitor the Information Stewardship Executive Directive. Support CEWA's Information Asset Register, ensuring accurate classification and secure handling of sensitive and personal information. Champion privacy awareness across CEWA through campaigns, webinars, and training platforms such as Phriendly Phishing. Stay up-to-date with developments in privacy law, AI regulation, and best practice, providing recommendations for proactive compliance and risk management. Collaborate with the wider security team to enhance CEWA's Data Security Posture Management (DSPM), including sensitivity labels and data loss prevention (DLP) controls, ensuring visibility and protection of sensitive data across cloud and on-premises environments. Administration and governance support for the Change Advisory Committee. This includes creation of agendas, taking minutes and following up on changes to ensure process and policy is being adhered to. Administration and governance support for the Enterprise Architecture Committee. This includes creation of agendas, taking minutes and coordinating submissions for the Board to review and make decisions on and recording and storing decisions made. Prepared to support the Catholic ethos in the performance of their duties. 2. Excellent organisational and communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, policy documents, and audit evidence. 3. Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively. 4. Ability to review and assess technology applications and systems against privacy and governance criteria. 5. Demonstrated understanding of Australian Privacy Principles, the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), and emerging AI privacy and regulatory requirements. 6. Experience supporting or conducting Privacy Impact Assessments (PIA) and AI Impact Assessments (AIIA), including risk identification and documentation. 7. Experience working in a technology or security-focused environment. 8. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team. B. HIGHLY DESIRABLE: 1. Previous experience in an administrative, privacy, or cybersecurity support role. 2. Experience working in a technology or security-focused environment, ideally within education or a large, multi-site organisation. 3. Relevant certifications or coursework in privacy, information technology or business administration. 4. Familiarity with security ticketing systems or IT service management tools. 5. Relevant certifications or coursework in privacy, information governance, cybersecurity, or business administration (e.g., IAPP, ISO/IEC 27001, AI Governance). 6. Experience supporting governance committees, preparing agendas, taking minutes, and coordinating follow-up actions. 7. Experience with AI-enabled technologies and their privacy implications. 8. Experience mentoring or supporting others in privacy or information governance functions.
