About the opportunity As the Operations Lead for the Docks team at Dandenong Letter Facility, you will oversee the day-to-day coordination of all inbound and outbound dock activities to ensure safe, efficient and on-time processing across your shift. You’ll play a key role in managing trailer movement, dock utilisation, vehicle scheduling and the seamless flow of freight in and out of the facility. Working as part of the facility leadership team, you will contribute to planning discussions, operational readiness and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance overall site performance. In this role, you’ll be responsible for executing labour plans, managing dock allocations, ensuring equipment and vehicle compliance, and maintaining a strong safety culture throughout all dock operations. You will partner closely with transport teams, linehaul providers, contractors and internal processing leaders to ensure service standards, loading accuracy and schedule adherence are consistently achieved. What you’ll deliver with us In this role, reporting to the Facility Manager, you’ll manage all aspects of dock operations for your shift, ensuring the safe, efficient and accurate movement of freight in and out of the facility. You’ll drive operational excellence, maintain cost and labour performance, and support a strong safety and team culture. You will deliver this through: End-to-end management of dock operations, including trailer movement, vehicle scheduling, loading/unloading, and adherence to operational plans and service performance targets. Data‑informed decision making by monitoring performance metrics, assessing capacity, implementing contingency plans and optimising dock resources in collaboration with Transport and Processing teams. Ownership of shift labour and cost performance, planning staffing levels, controlling overtime, and achieving Cost to Serve expectations while maintaining operational efficiency. Ensuring customer and community outcomes by managing accurate and timely processing of all dock movements and supporting quality control initiatives. Leading a strong safety culture, including compliance with Safe Operating Procedures, supervising equipment usage, conducting investigations, and fostering proactive hazard awareness across all dock activities. Developing and supporting your team through coaching, mentoring, performance management, clear communication and timely resolution of operational or workplace issues to sustain a positive and accountable culture. About you You’re an experienced operational leader who thrives in fast-paced, high-volume environments and brings the capability to manage dock operations efficiently, safely, and accurately. You combine strong people leadership with technical knowledge, practical operational skills, and the ability to analyse data, solve problems, and drive continuous improvement. You will bring: Proven supervisory or management experience leading sizeable teams in a complex operational environment, including improving shift performance, managing IR matters, and resolving workplace issues. Strong people leadership capability, with experience coaching, mentoring, and developing high‑performing teams while building effective relationships across multiple stakeholders. Technical and operational proficiency, including forklift operation, vehicle and equipment coordination, and confidence using operational systems, dashboards, and digital tools. Forklift licence and experience is preferred. Solid understanding of operational management techniques, KPI measurement, workflow optimisation, and the ability to make timely, informed decisions in a dynamic environment. Knowledge of HR, safety, and industrial relations requirements, with experience maintaining compliance, conducting investigations, and fostering a safety‑first culture. Familiarity with Australia Post operational processes, particularly docks, transport, linehaul, and parcel/mail flow.
