Job Description We are seeking a skilled and experienced Fleet Maintenance Manager to oversee the maintenance, repair, and overall performance of our fleet of waste management vehicles. This role is critical to maintaining the efficiency and reliability of our fleet, including waste collection trucks, compactors, and other specialized vehicles. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in fleet maintenance, with experience managing a team and implementing proactive maintenance strategies. Key Responsibilities Oversee the maintenance and repair of a diverse fleet of waste management vehicles, including heavy‑duty trucks, compactors, and other specialized equipment. Develop and implement a preventive maintenance program to reduce unscheduled downtime and extend the lifespan of fleet assets. Ensure all vehicles are compliant with safety regulations, emissions standards, and industry‑specific waste management guidelines. Lead and manage a team of mechanics, technicians, and maintenance staff to ensure timely and efficient repairs and service. Monitor and track vehicle performance, including fuel efficiency, maintenance costs, and equipment utilisation. Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections for compliance and audit purposes. Collaborate with Operations teams to ensure vehicle availability aligns with service needs and schedules. Manage relationships with external service providers, including vendors and third‑party repair shops. Control maintenance budgets, ensuring cost‑effective solutions for vehicle repairs, parts procurement, and labour. Implement and monitor safety procedures for maintenance operations, ensuring a safe and compliant work environment. Continuously evaluate fleet performance and recommend improvements to optimise efficiency and reduce costs. Qualifications Proven experience as a Fleet Maintenance Manager or in a similar role. Strong knowledge of the maintenance and repair needs of heavy‑duty vehicles. Familiarity with industry regulations, including safety standards, environmental regulations, and emissions compliance. Leadership experience, with the ability to manage and develop a team of mechanics and technicians. Experience in preventive maintenance planning and execution, as well as managing repair schedules. Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to handle emergencies and breakdowns under pressure. Excellent communication and organisational skills. Proficient in fleet management software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.). Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Automotive Technology, Fleet Management, or a related field. Experience with heavy vehicles. Knowledge of vehicle telematics and diagnostic tools to track fleet performance. A dynamic and supportive work environment focused on safety and sustainability.
