Volunteer with our Peer CARE Companion in Community in The Northern Beaches community. Peer CARE Companion in Community is a face‑to‑face, community‑based suicide prevention service that provides a safe place for people to connect with our Peer CARE Companions who share a similar lived experience. A lived experience of suicide includes: Having experienced suicidal thoughts Survived a suicide attempt Supported a loved one through a suicidal crisis Been bereaved by suicide Peer CARE Companions meet people where they are and support them in various ways: meeting in community settings, coffee chats, walking, or connecting for a chat. You will have flexibility and can update availability to suit your lifestyle. Peer CARE Companions should be: Comfortable talking about suicide Comfortable listening to another person's lived experience and emotions Able to listen deeply and let people talk about their experiences Training provided: TouchPoints Workshop (4.5 hours) Self‑paced online modules (4–6 hours) Peer CARE Companion Workshop (6.5 hours) Service induction and practice calls (3 hours) Commitment Regular – more than 6 months Time required Once training is complete, minimum: approximately 3 hours per month at a time and location that suits you and our service users.
