Australian Department of Defence – Wollongong NSW 14d ago , from Australian Department of Defence $95,187 - $108,734 + 10% BDCP + up to 15.4% Superannuation Wollongong - NSW The Role The Australian Hydrographic Office is Australia’s national hydrographic and charting authority and is responsible for producing nautical charts and other products in support of Australia’s maritime interests and Defence operations, ensuring safety and environment protection. As an APS 6 Geospatial Analyst, you will be expected to perform a range of duties and roles, which include the management, examination, manipulation and validation of various environmental geospatial data themes including metrological, oceanographic and hydrographic, to enable spatial data management, analytics and production of end user products. About our Team The team consists of a combination of civilian and military personnel. It is a mixture of qualifications in the fields of hydrographic surveying, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), oceanography, meteorology, data management, and geospatial analysis. The teams’ main functions are to prepare geospatial data for use in the compilation of navigational and operational support products. This involves the curation, assessment, analysis, manipulation, review, and publication of geospatial data using a variety of software suites. The team’s primary responsibility is to support Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), protect the marine environment, support maritime economic activities and support Defence operations through the provision of validated geospatial products. Our Ideal Candidate Our ideal candidate will have experience analysing geospatial data and can use a variety of techniques to determine data quality in relation to national and international standards. Have high attention to detail and readily adapt to enterprise data management systems. Use high-level communication skills to build and sustain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the provision of the highest quality validated geospatial data in support of AHO’s functions. You will be a team player and able to contribute your skills and knowledge to improve team performance and efficiency alongside advances in technology. Successful candidates will: Be accountable to deliver validated geospatial data that and products that adhere to quality systems, procedures, standards and legislative requirements. Prioritise workload and monitor task progress against performance expectation to meet business objectives. Build and sustain effective relationships with team members and actively mentor less experienced team members. Work collaboratively with local, national and international stakeholders on matters of strategic, national and Defence interest when required. Develop expertise in data management and manipulation in relation to use and maintenance of geospatial databases.
