About the role The School of Nursing and Midwifery seeks a passionate academic to join the team to coordinate and deliver teaching and learning in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples' Health and Rural and Remote Nursing. This position will advance culturally informed teaching, research, and practice, preparing the next generation of nurses to provide safe and responsive care in diverse communities. During 2026, the role will initially operate across both Darlinghurst and Broadway campuses. Key Responsibilities Deliver high‑quality teaching in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples' Health and Rural and Remote Nursing. Influence and advise on curriculum development that reflects Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and doing and embed these perspectives across the nursing curriculum. Engage in research and scholarship that supports Indigenous health and rural nursing practice with a focus on community impact and knowledge translation. Foster strong, respectful and ongoing relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and health organisations ensuring engagement is collaborative and reciprocal. Mentor Indigenous students and contribute to a culturally safe and inclusive learning environment for all students. Provide expertise in promoting cultural safety and capability among staff and students. Contribute to community engagement, advocacy, and outreach that strengthen the University’s role in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health outcomes. Participate in school and university committees, working groups, or initiatives that advance reconciliation and Indigenous engagement. Qualifications, skills & experience Well‑developed tertiary education, nursing practice and clinical experience. Bachelor of Nursing, and postgraduate/master’s qualification in a relevant discipline (or equivalent standing). Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse. Experience in teaching, curriculum development, and/or clinical practice in Indigenous health and rural/remote nursing. Strong understanding of cultural safety, Indigenous health issues, and social determinants of health. Proven ability to embed Indigenous knowledges and perspectives into health education, curriculum, and research. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across diverse teams and communities. Experience in engaging and partnering and building relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations and with community and demonstrated research capacity or potential. To be eligible for this position, applicants must provide a statement and supporting documentation that addresses how they meet each of the following criteria for Aboriginality. i. be of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent; and ii. identify as an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander; and iii. be accepted as such by the community in which they live or have lived. Supporting documentation may include, but is not limited to, a letter of Aboriginality signed under the common seal from a recognised incorporated Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community organisation such as Land Council or Elders group, Aboriginal Medical Service or a letter on letterhead from a Local Aboriginal Land Council demonstrating membership of the Council.
