The opportunity As Coordinator Arboriculture and Conservation, you’ll play a key role in caring for the City’s natural spaces. You’ll lead the management of our urban trees, conservation reserves, and ranger services, while bringing the Urban Forest and Biodiversity Strategies to life. This role is all about combining hands‑on leadership with specialist knowledge to protect and enhance our environment. You’ll champion sustainability, foster community connections, and make sure our parks and green spaces thrive for generations to come. What you’ll be doing Leading the planning and maintenance of the City’s trees to keep our urban canopy safe, sustainable and resilient. Driving the Urban Forest and Biodiversity Strategies, turning environmental goals into real outcomes for the community. Overseeing the care and protection of conservation reserves, restoring habitats and promoting biodiversity across the municipality. Providing guidance and support to the Ranger Service while fostering collaboration, safety and wellbeing within the team. Managing budgets, compliance and partnerships while encouraging innovation, respect and continuous improvement in everything we do What you'll need to succeed A relevant qualification in arboriculture, conservation or ecosystem management, or bring significant hands‑on experience in these areas. Deep knowledge of tree and conservation planning, design and maintenance, along with strong technical expertise in urban forest management and best‑practice methods. Confidence in developing and delivering strategies, policies and operational programmes, while managing budgets, contracts and assets to achieve sustainable outcomes. Experience in leading diverse teams, driving change and fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement. Demonstrated strong leadership and project management skills, with the ability to manage complex operations and community engagement in a local government or similar setting.
