Location Profile Burnside Primary School was opened in 2019 and serves about 445 students. The Learning Communities provide flexible learning spaces within a single building, including two Learning Community buildings that host most students. This P-6 Learning Community offers a rich array of educational activities, including messy wet areas, quiet reflective spaces, withdrawal spaces, library spaces, and small classrooms. Role The classroom teacher classification comprises two salary ranges: Range 1 and Range 2. The primary focus is on planning, preparation and teaching to achieve specific student outcomes. Teachers engage in reflection and inquiry to improve knowledge and effectiveness. As experience grows, teachers may contribute to the school program beyond the classroom, and may undertake other duties in line with the salary range, qualifications, training and experience. Range 2 classroom teachers Have content knowledge and pedagogical practice to meet diverse student needs. Model exemplary classroom practice and mentor/coach other teachers. Provide expert advice to shape professional learning. Supervise and train one or more student teachers. Assist staff to use data to inform teaching and improve student outcomes. Range 1 classroom teachers Range 1 focuses on developing skills to become an effective classroom practitioner with structured support. Teachers plan, prepare and teach programs and may supervise student teachers. They participate in policy development and school priorities, with emphasis on classroom management and instructional practice. New entrants receive mentoring and guidance. They plan and teach within subject areas and participate in induction and professional learning activities. The role includes direct teaching of groups and individuals, and may involve other duties as determined by the principal. Responsibilities may include involvement in policy development, project teams and co-curricular activities. Responsibilities The role of classroom teacher may include but is not limited to: Direct teaching of groups and individuals Contributing to curriculum development, implementation and evaluation Other classroom teaching related and organisational duties as determined by the Principal Participation in parent/teacher meetings, staff meetings, camps and excursions Other non-teaching supervisory duties Who May Apply Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach in the specified curriculum areas. Qualification Requirements To be eligible for employment, transfer or promotion in teaching roles: Provisional or full registration approved by the Victorian Institute of Teaching. If completing an Australian postgraduate initial teaching program on or after 1 January 2024, demonstration of satisfactory completion of a postgraduate level accredited ITE program is required. If graduating from a Victorian ITE program after 1 July 2016, demonstration of LANTITE requirements is required unless part of the ITE program.
